I had a rather nasty accident at work 12 days ago which resulted in my right hand going through rollers and crushing my thumb and forefinger. Fortunately, I was taken to Morriston Hospital where the decision to amputate was turned around to reconstruct. I had 4 days in the High Dependency Unit in the Burns & Plastics Ward following 2 ops of 4 hours and 8 hours and a further 6 days in isolation. I have had 2 days out this weekend and go back in tonight. Anyway, I have lost part of my right thumb and had massive reconstructive surgery and skin grafts. My hand is now "different" to the other one of the pair and I can't see me getting a glove on it when I do eventually get to ride my bike again, (and I will!). Now to the question: Anyone here had any experince of made-to-measure gloves? I think BKS Leather may do this, but I would like to hear of anyone who has any experience of this. Thanks :beerjug:

I don't have any direct experience but I know that Held make custom gloves and have a very good reputation. I think you can choose any glove in the range and pay a percentage premium to have it custom made.

I was looking into it for my tiny handed pillion but we eventually found some off the peg gloves that fit so I never took it further.

I saw some BKS leather in a RIDE magazine in the 'money no object' section. They were very expensive, I think around the 300GBP mark...

But really, matey it sounds that you are really lucky to have your hand! Speedy recovery, at least watching the Lions and particularly the Welsh players tearing up the New Zelanders will cheer you up!

Take care!

Thanks Gilson. Yes, I am very lucky indeed, the alternative doesn't bear thinking of. I'm getting pretty nifty at one-fingered, left-handed typing too! I'll be back on the bike ASAP! :beerjug:

Made to measure gloves

I chopped off my left index finger and half of the thumb on a circular saw. Looked at BKS gloves but I think there havin a laf with their prices. I ordered a pair of Held gloves through GLF Accessories. Well satisfied with the service and the gloves. If you get a catalogue they list several models that are available made to measure. Best of luck
