Hi

After a rather enjoyable trip to Garmisch I washed the bike yesterday. I noticed that with the engine running and the daytime running light on the auto position, the main beam can be activated.

Something at the back of my mind makes me think this is wrong, and that Con & Use Regs require main beam on only in conjunction with dipped.

I obviously stand to be corrected but could someone check their bike please, just to see if 'they all do that sir'. Its a GSA TE.

From S.10 of the Road of the Road Vehicle Lighting Regs 10. Electrical connections–
(a) Every main-beam headlamp shall be so constructed that the light emitted therefrom–
(i)can be deflected at the will of the driver to become a dipped beam, or .
(ii)can be extinguished by the operation of a device which at the same time either– .
(A)causes the lamp to emit a dipped beam, or .
(B)causes another lamp to emit a dipped beam. .
(b) Where a matched pair of main-beam headlamps is fitted they shall be capable of being switched on and off simultaneously and not otherwise.

I thought that the DRL (LED lights on mine) dimmed when main beam came on, so that it acted as the side light.

The led spots are classified as additional driving lights I so can't see the issue :nenau

If your high beam is on then I guess it's pretty dark and the spots throw a great lateral spread of light to the sides. More light the better IMO :thumb2

I'm glad they stay on anyway.

Jon
