hilarious
hi..thankfully i no longer ride a bmw, havent done for a couple of years but pal of mine told me about this discussion so i thought id take a look.
well, my own experiences with my dream bmw werent very favourable either from beginning to end and the quality of mechanics i suffered to keep the log book current was simply unbelievable.
come trade in time it got worse and i was further amazed at the depreciation the bike suffered having been sold the strory 18 months previous ALL bmw's are in demand and they depreciate the least. it also made me regret washing and polishing the thing every sunday. i had a good laugh at the comments left by some of your dealers...get the collecting tins out please!!
oh nearly forgot, the cost of parts was also horrendous when compared to 'jap crap'. i also noticed a decent turn over of mechanics during this time and i put it down to their bosses piling the pressure on to turn the bikes around. it was noticable on the 3 occassions i had problems with the bike as it was away for ages 'waiting for parts'!
the end result, i bailed out of bmw and havent looked back either.
robeekay has raised some really decent points here and the trouble i think your site suffers is if there are problems, too few of you will show your support. you bike is very much flawed and you're mistaken if you think otherwise.
spending over £45 per hour for any service is frightening and, maybe im lucky, but my local FRANCHISED 100% kosher yam dealers in my area are £33.5 and £35 p/h respectively. so why are you lot surprised at someone else getting those rates? robeekay also nails it on the technology thing...1150 gs was never the height of tech was it? as so many of you have confidently stated, its easy to service..so why so much money in a official workshop? please dont counter with the service it yourself argument .....you all know how you like the stamps in your logs for those warranty repairs??...thats why i send mine in for the stamp too.....mind you, never made a claim since i went jap!
and my experiences with the jap bikes? well, smoother, as comfortable as the gs. need far less mods spent on them. servcing cost way lower and when something does go wrong its minor gear boxes great. clutches light. what do i miss about the gs? yes it was individual, good handling great luggage but so clunky and those lights....and take it off road? your kidding..... and so costly...
ive enjoyed reading the comments (no names mentioned) but some of you really should step out of your box sometimes and maybe think whether you support a bike manufacturer who likes making you pay and who could do better?
so respect robeekay, theres a lot of bikers from other communities who wouldnt buy bmw for every reason you stated.....just seem the guys here have problems seeing it too!
if you guys got your act together and did voice problems to bmw uk, they might even listen. it worked with honda regarding the vfr vtec service cost and lets face it, rusting wheels and fork braces on a 9k bike was a bit bad, dont you think?(they may have subsequently changed itto be fair)
happy biking to you all and give robeekay a break, from the outside looking in, hes hit some fine sore points with you lot who seem to be in a bit of a denial.....xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
