just registered my 550 and had a look at map upgrades and there is one for
£72.99 onetime update and one for £99.95 life time update does this mean i can update at any time for one payment?? as i have athirty day discount code is it worth it??
thanks

Yep, but I believe its for that unit only (Unless Garmin replaces it when it breaks down - ring them up and transfer the package to the replacement 550).

However you will get the updates on the one of purchase until they do a major change again (Map source 10)- which could be years or as long as the 550 lasts:augie or could be next year:confused:

Your call

thanks for the promt reply might be worth a punt any other opinions??

Firstly, assuming your 550 is brand new and you registered on-line, you are entitled to 1 free update, as long as a newer version comes out within 60 days of your Zumo getting a fix.

The current maps are called 2010.1, although you may have 2009.1 if your new 550 was 'in stock' for a time before you bought it.

2010.2 has been released for North America, and the EU version is overdue, so you should be OK to get it within 60 days.

The Life Time updates is tied to you AND your unit, unless the unit breaks.

So if you buy a newer Zumo etc, you will need to re-buy newer maps, if you understand what I'm saying.

If you are planning on keeping you 550 for the next couple of years, the extra cost is worth it. However, hang on to your money for now to see if you get your first update free :)

Bought the 550 second hand and registered it on the website so i doubt a free update is available going by what you say funrider and i will keep the unit unless it breaks in the meantime so i might go for the one time update whilst the thirty day 10% offer is available thanks.

The one time update will only update the maps on the unit, and not on your computer. To get the updates for the computer you will need to get the life time update.

Garmin is not very clear about this, but I ran into it, and was lucky enough that Garmin gave me back my money for the one time update, and now I got the life time thing.
