Maps from Nav V to Basecamp

When I have my Nav V plugged into my PC and click on the Maps tab in Basecamp it shows City Navigator Europe NTU 2016.3 which is great and allows me to create routes etc. However, if my Nav is not plugged into the PC then there are no maps indicated in the tab as Bascamp is reading the information from my unit. My unit is up to date as far as Garmin Express is concerned but my Basecamp on the PC isn't. Having tried all the various options I can't see how to obtain or copy City Navigator onto my pc from my Nav V or my Garmin account. Is there any way of doing this or do you have to purchase the maps separately from Garmin to upload to Basecamp thus negating the need to have the unit plugged in when planning routes?

Start Garmin Express and click "map options" It will then give you the option to install maps to the computer
