Could any of you mapsource experts point out what it is I'm doing wrong please? I'm sure the solution will be simple enough but after much searching and trial and error I'm stuck. I've read the mapsource sticky tutorials and thought (wrongly) that I was getting the hang of things :blast

I've recently bought a zumo 660 which is working fine, using map version City Navigator Europe NT 2012.1 version 15.10 and a 16gb micro SD card.

I'm off camping in France shortly with swmbo and want to prepare some routes for when we're over there. I've been onto the '80 virees a moto' thread and downloaded some routes that look good. I've tinkered around a bit and saved three routes in one mapsource document (ferry to campsite and a couple of ride outs in france). The problems start when I try to put more routes in the file, for example inverting a route to go back to the ferry. It won't allow any more than three. Ok I thought, i'll send the first lot to my gps using mapsource and just create another file with some more. When I try to upload the second file it overwrites the first one.

I have tried to save the files to the card but then the zumo can't 'see' them when I try to import them via the settings menu. I'd sure you can have more than three routes at a time or have data such as routes, waypoints etc saved in a folder on the memory card to load whilst out and about.

:hide Any suggestions? Other than that the zumo is a cracking bit of kit!

How odd! Which error message do you get when you try to create the fourth route?

Routes shouldn't be overwritten unless they have the same name...would unticking "autoname" and ensuring the route name is unique help at all? I aways number my routes in some way...e.g. "Day1 Zeebrugge to Koblenz" so that they list out in the day order.

Thanks for the advice.

Hmm it is odd but more user error on my behalf! I hadn't been getting error messages as such, when I inverted the route I assumed it would create a new one but I think I should have copied the route before I reversed it? Anyhow I've sorted that and it seemed to work alright.

They even seem to have uploaded to my Garmin as well so I'm getting there:beerjug::beerjug:

What still confuses me though is even though I've sent the routes via mapsource and they appear in the route menu, they also show in the my data part of settings to be uploaded again? Also I see that there is a lot of information on here such as waypoints for shops etc how do I get these onto my maps, just import them the same way? I'm sure these are simple questios and i'm sorry to ask honest!

Yeah, copy, reverse. The Mydata thing on the 660 is a bit confusing...as long as the routes are there under My Data, Custom Routes, I have never worried.

If you have a file with waypoints in it (such as those often provided by Wapping and other UKGSERs), open it in Mapsource. You can run Mapsource again to open your route file, double clicking route to be edited. Using the Waypoints tab in each Mapsource window, copy any waypoints you might conceivably find useful from the source file and paste into the window with appropriate route open, insert required waypoints into route, recalculate route, save, transfer.

If you don't have a source of handy waypoints, open your route file, find stuff, create waypoints, double click route, insert new waypoints in correct order, recalculate, save, transfer.

I tend to go on a trip with loads of waypoints loaded as I often change my mind about routes when underway. The waypoints show up on the map and if you're making good time, you can make a spontaneous detour to a waypoint nearby, the map jogs your memory that it's close.

Found basecamp 10 mins after posting :blast

So perhaps I reduce the bastard to perhaps coccydynia :P
