Finally got everything installed.

I want to send the new 2008 maps to the gps (2610) Can anyone tell me if by transferring the new maps to the unit it will overwrite the old v9 maps?

ps - I have a spare 2008 CD free to anyone who wants it - Garmin as usual sent me 2.

Yes please msgs1200. I've just PMd you my address. Two gents off this site have offered / sent me the latest update disks, but both were the NT version, which doesn't work on the 2610.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who got easily confused :) at least I recognised my fcuk up before I paid for the postage :augie

Sadly I only realised yesterday when I opened the envelope. I thought I'd update it at my leisure on a Sunday morning over a relaxed coffee. Garmin reckon they posted the one due to me last week, but there's still no sign of it, and typically I'm off to Bavaria on Wednesday, so I can just imagine my brother waiting outside with the engine running while I try to download the latest maps. IIRC correctly, the same thing happened when I went to Poland. :blast

Why don't Garmin send 1 copy out to everyone entitled to it around Christmas time, so that people have ample time to update things?

Taff, you realise the really clever thing will be to have two 2gb disks, one with the old mapping, the other waiting for the CN 2008 maps?

Just need to "recalculate" the routes, and check the way points and via points don't move too much from old to 2008

BTW I've noticed large differences in journey times going from CN NT v9 to CN 2008 NT :eek

why don't they just have it for download on their site?

Good thinking Batman. :thumb2

I'd already decided that I wouldn't delete anything from the current card, until the new maps were safely installed on my computer, but that sounds even better.

I'd guess that a few thousand people, all trying to download 2gb at once, would crash their servers. At least it's now only one dvd, not three cd-roms :)

i wonder what the bandwidth costs v postal charges would look like?

they might also consider using P2P to distribute. much of their stuff is available that way unofficially anyway.
perhaps it could be built into their updater app.

I owe you an apology msgs1200 as I clean forgot to post your cheque in the general post trip tidy up, but I promise you that it will be in the post first thing in the morning.

I have tried to PM you, but your mailbox is full and won't accept any more.
