Mapsource Update.

Hi Folks,
Not being to conversant with anything technical,from time to time i try to educate myself a little more in the ways of the modern world.I have mapsource city navigator V8 which i am hopeing to upgrade before we go away next year,although i am not sure what the latest upgrade is.
My question is that my current mapsource is asking me if i wish to upgrade from version 6.9.1 to version 6.15.6.0 and that this will take 227 minutes.
What does it do and is it something i should do?

Mapsource 6.15.xx is the thing on the PC which you plan routes on.

City Nav v8 is the maps that mapsource and your GPS uses.

Time to update I'll guess is the download time for the latest Mapsource on a dial up connection, downloading the latest maps 2010.20 afaik takes a few hours.
