Anyone near Preston got Mapsource V6? I could do with a small favour, if you could drop me a line please.

Many thanks,

Crosby....
Mapsource or City Nav. I don't have City nav V6 but have Mapsource 6 beta

Paul:

Not sure if this helps you or not, but if you have ANY Garmin map product on a CD, you will also have the MapSource application on the same CD. It does not matter what version of MapSource is on the CD, just install it, once it is installed you can download a free update from the Garmin website - either to 5.4, which is the last 'full release' version, or 6, which is a public beta. 6 seems to be fairly stable and trouble-free, it might be the better way to go.

Sorry Guys, the message was left a bit brief.

I've got a ColorMap with Europe Metroguide V4 & Mapsource V5.3 but I need the mapping info for the IOM which only comes on the latest mapping software. I'm a tight git & can't justify buying the latest version just for the IOM info.

I've got a spare memory card & wondered if someone would load up that single map segment for me. A bit naughty, I know........I'm ashamed, really

Thanks for your help,

I thought that you might be after something like that!

Sorry to say, however, that it won't work! Garmin have got the unlock codes buttoned down pretty tight!

Thought as much. It is Not Mapsource you require but the latest Metroguide. Would lend you my SPIII but I have City Nav V4 which only has the main roads on the IOM

Bummer....thanks anyway. I've got the main roads on the ColorMap, but not the smaller lanes (of which, there are many).

Paul:

Some info that might help you sort out and comprehend all the different products:

1) City Navigator and City Select (CN and CS) - these are NavTech products that support auto-route generation on the GPS itself, they are serial number locked to the specific GPS unit. Because your StreetPilot ColourMap does not support serial number unlocking (it was made before that process was invented), you can't use these products on it.

2) MetroGuide Europe (MG) - this product, also by NavTech, does not support auto route generation on the GPS. This does not mean any loss of functionality for you, because your GPS can't calculate routes anyway. MG map segments are much smaller (in data size) than the comparable CN or CS segments, because they don't have the street attributes, etc. that are needed for autorouting. MG is intended for use in the GPSR's that have smaller memory capacity (such as your SP ColourMap) and is the best product for you. It is also much less expensive than the CN and CS products, which might be good news for you.

3) You referred to "MapSource" in your original post. MapSource is actually the name of the computer program that runs on your PC and is used to move map segments, waypoints, routes, etc. between your PC and your GPSR. MapSource itself does not contain any cartographic data.

Think of the various mapping products (CN, CS, MG) as being different grades of gasoline (98, 95, diesel), and MapSource as being the pump that moves the gasoline from the underground storage tank into your vehicle, and you'll have the general idea.

Cheers for the explanation Pan.

You are right.....I meant say Metroguide Europe v6, which includes the IOM mapping info.
