Hello all. Have just installed Mapsource city navigator europe V8 on my laptop and it wont run. When I click on it this message appears

" Access was denied when mapsource tried to read from the registry. Please consult your system administrator and start mapsource again"

The installation seemed ok and I put in the correct unlock code. Had it all loaded and running fine on my last computer but it wont run this time on my laptop.
Using windows Vista and didn't bother with the online garmin registering bit.

Any ideas folks. Well annoying

Do you mean that you've installed a copy of Mapsource on your machine or you've uploaded City Navigator V8 into an already existing installation of Mapsource?

I'm suspecting the former. Mapsource is the name of Garmin's platform which allows for manipulation of mapsets and City Navigator describes a particular sort of mapset; ie they're not the same thing.

My hunch would be that you've installed an old version of Mapsource which isn't compatible with Vista.

You can get the latest version of Mapsource here - http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

I loaded the official City Navigator Europe V8 disc which also says Mapsource on the disc. I know they are 2 different things. The city v8 being all the maps and mapsource is the program that allows you to create routes etc. I just assumed that mapsource was incorperated into the map cd. Will I have to download that link/ patch then?
Thanks for helping me out on this one.
cheers

Was the last machine running XP? Again, it's just my hunch that you've got a version of Mapsource which doesn't support XP. Do you know which version of Mapsource you had on your old machine?

On the other hand it might be worth right clicking on Mapsource and clicking on Run as Administrator and seeing if that has the desired effect.

Aha! Well done!:clap
that's the ticket. Did as you said and it opens fine. Seems like it was on my old pc. All of europe in great detail.
Wonder why it opens with that rather than as normal.
Many thanks

Now for the route planning!
