Hi all

I'm toying with the idea of riding down through Italy, across Sicily and into Tunisia, then across from there through Algeria and Morocco...., Spain, France and back home

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the one of the key borders was shut, but I'll be darned if I can find it!

Anyone got any "oh no that's impossible" information/advice??? :augie

Thanks

P

more of an impossible one!! Border has been closed to legal travellers for years and you'll struggle to leave Maroc for Spain without an entry stamp..........

It was said with typical British understatement, as in "bit of a tricky situation chaps got Jerry surrounding us and we're all out of ammo, but chin up, stiff upper lip and all that " :D

The only way you could do this (short of going sub-Saharan)is by going from Algeria to France, then France to Morocco (or ride down to Spain and go to Maroc from there) .....as above, you can't legally go from Algeria to Morocco.

I haven't got the link to han, but the Algeria>France>Morocco route is going to take at least two days on the ferries and cost rather a lot :(

The ferry routes are well established and pre-bookable though, so you could time/price it all up if you wanted to :)

Hmmmm that's interesting.

So one could start France, Italy, Sicily, Tunisia, then cross into Algeria, travel across Algeria to Oran (100/150 miles from the Morocco border), take a ferry from Oran to Alicante, then back Home for tea ?

Er, from Where???

To come up through the Western Sahara, you need through Mori, Senegal and Mali...to get to Mali, you'll need to go through Niger and Mali.

That's some serious travelling in both terrain and distance......and (without trying top be mean here) I would suggest that from what you've said here already, trying that route and that journey probably isn't for you yet ;)

You'd be very welcome to come out to Morocco with us and see what it's actually like- get a flavour of it at least then maybe take your 'plans' further :)

Sorry. From Algeria to west sahara, then from there to morroco....as for sub-sahara, I'd love to but the time and budget aren't quite there!!

western sahara is basically maroc and not only that but the entire 1000 mile plus (closed) border is a minefield:eek:
Depending on how persuasive you can be it is nigh on impossible to travel anywhere in southern Tunis or Algeria without a local guide, the southern border regions of both are also not places for casual travellers! Both regions littered with people you should hope don't meet you;)
All good fun if that's your cup of tea but not a holiday:thumb
