Bike has been stood since Oct 2011,started regularly.
Went out today and all started well, turned ignition on,pressed key and " BEEP ".
Pressed starter and away we went, rode to Portland and then Yeovil.
Pulled in for fuel, went to start and no " BEEP " from key and no fuel pump noise.
kept trying for 40 mins and luckily she fired up,got home, switched off.
Went to restart and nothing again.
I have checked both 2 x 3 volt battery's in the key and key fob and both show over 6 volts,so they seem fine.
Any thoughts / causes.
Thank you in advance............:beerjug:

A strong local radio signal can mask the key code, can be a mobile phone aerial. Worth checking out you keycode that can be entered by switching on and off your ignition. Happened to me at the top of a peak in the peak district, did not know what it was until I looked up and saw I was parked under a 100 foot aerial.

Contact Meta, via their website, who will give you the details of a local geezer to get in touch with. Invite him over to your place to diagnose the problem and after a short while agree to have him (or her) insert a short circuit link into your loom and confirm that the bike starts every time. It'll cost you about £35 if you are a time traveller and can get back to NW Kent in 2007.

Mine just went loopy, without notice, and was very annoying for a couple of days before the Geezer turned up. He just declared it as "useless" after a couple of "resets" and offered me the above solution.

Get rid of it and accept the anxiety. :comfort

goodbye Meta

Yer need to change that airfilter. :augie

The Mobile phone masts up at the Ponderosa seem to stop some alarmed bikes too, I believe the breakdown services have cottoned on and now advise people to roll a way down the hill and try again before turning out.
glad you got it sorted Ash :thumb2
The thing is too scruffy for anyone to want to nick it anyway :augie

Meta hassle

Only time I ever had a problem with my V Strom was when rain totalled the fob on my Meta. Spare fob was at home - of course. That was game set and match for me up in the far north west corner of Scotland. Meta wanted about a million £ for a replacement and evidently it costs similar to have the alarm removed. Hope your problem is aerial/mast related. No alarm on the GS - no problem. If someone was to steal it then I hope it falls on them so I can LMAO

Going to take the alarm off Saturday. :eek
Just needed to check, that my plan was the correct way.
Thank you Jay ;)
i will post a picture report [ unless i feck up,then i will say nowt ] :augie

That'll be it :thumb2

I had the same, somewhere in Poland I think, at some motorway services.

We were right next to a field with these bleedin' great aerials in.
I pushed it 100 yards down the road, coasted another 100 yards downhill sitting on bike and suddenly my pinger worked again :thumb

Yer berk you....should have checked here before you took the alarm off :blast :rob

I don't know what info you're working from but the Meta 357 on my RSV was removed and a single jumper wire was installed into the now empty connector to restore normal operations.

putting the wiring back as BMW made the loom
ie
taking out all Meta wiring ;)

Sounds like it wasn't properly installed then.

It's a Thatcham approved device, so it should have at LEAST twin circuit immobilisation to prevent Chavvy Scrote from doing something simple to bypass it.
