Having just seen the "things you dont wanna see" thread got me thinking/worrying, never had a problem or odd noise from the gs, last month I did a 3000 mils trip and after showing my passport I started the bike to hear a metalic ting noise from the right hand cylinder, gave it a rev all ok turned of and on again no probs so carried on. I would say about 15 times during the trip it made the noise on start up (usually hot) but ran absolutly perfect, since coming home its been fine. The noise is just on initall turn over, always the right cylinder, In my head it was as if the piston/valve made contact but it couldnt have, then maybe a valve was tight and pinged back??? just dont know.

Oh before oil is mentioned, its runs 20/50 fuchs mineral and was done prior to trip that was the 3rd change using 20/50 all the others were 10/40 valvoline semi synth.

So has anybody had this or similer? Should I panic and pull it to bits?

I get this also on the right hand cylinder, but generally when the bike is hotter than normal. The only thing i have done recently is to adjust the rocker end float - maybe this will fix it!!

I have got the same thing. It happens always when is hot, comes from right hand as well.2001,45k,1150gs.
How many people here have the same problem?

Dump the sump plate look for bits, do a compression test & if everything looks good ? Go down the pub & celebrate...:beerjug:
