Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE

What do you mean , my point is that if you can post your feelings of tyres on here some will gain from it , its not hard...……………...post 55 is a generalised comment , stating the obvious , not experience . that make assist someone to make a decision based , again , on experimentation over many miles.

Personally beyond wear mileage etc I think tyre opinions are about as useful as asking someone what is the best colour shirt to wear. For example you find rt01 squirmy when pushing and wouldn’t recommend them. I’ve never had that at all and I have ridden in similar places to you and at speed.

So who is right or are we both right or both wrong ? If you tell me it lasts 5k that is something I can relate too, The rest is just personal opinion and is largely relevant only to you, how you ride, brake, move on the bike etc etc. The next guy could ride the polar opposite of you in all those things.

Hence the best tyre is the one that suits you most. It’s a generalisation because no one else can tell you what that tyre is.

I think stick must be a good judge as he change tyres when he think they are bad and he say he rides very fast and hard, I take away A3 and replace with Dunlop Meridian, I am not the fastest or the best but A3 slip to many times for me, I tried the Dunlop Merdian for 100kms and gave big confidence.

All my posts relate to the mileage , and also to the feel to the tyre over the stated mileage and the pros and cons of the said tyres.
You say the RT01 does not squirm under hard braking , it does , you need to try harder . Two up its even worse ( posted before .. if I could have changed tyres during the trip I would have done ... I came back and rode again with the same tyres on my second set of wheels , one up , no difference , they were shit ). I will try any tyre , if I don't like it after 500 miles or so I will take it off . Thus I have tried so many sets back to back , plus I have the two sets of wheels so I can change over and compare the sets , day after day , ride against ride , can you.
I m not here to be awkward only to post things I have done .
I agree that tyres are a personal thing but … if you can give a bit of info based on you style , experience that is not a bad thing or a willy waving exercise either . I try to find the best options for the gs ridden at speed and hard .

I’ve yet to find my perfect tyre. Whilst I rate the rt01 on the GS I still think there is a better one for me out there. I didn’t gel with the A3 either, couldn’t wait to get them off if only to protect my ears from the noise.

My friend will ride anything Tyre wise and doesn’t care, rides the same on all of them and buys what they have in stock. He generally can’t tell you what tyres he’s got 2 weeks after buying them or quantify any change in his riding or grip between them. Given how well he rides I’m not sure if he’s talented or a bit mad.

I don’t disagree with you Stick I’m sure they squirm for you but that just quantifies why it’s so personal and that’s the point I’m making. I might not buy them on that basis yet they may be perfect for me.

I wear out front and rears about the same time. My brother gets 2 rears to 1 front and my mate gets 3 to 1. We all ride the same bike at mostly the same Speeds and roads although the 3 to 1 guy does a bit of commuting. None of us like each other’s choice of tyres.

Having read this thread carefully I was going to fit roadtec to my GSA, but on balance and having had trail attacks years ago I guess 1s or 2s ? I am going to take the recommendation of stick and get a set of TA3 s fitted to my spare wheels on Monday. Quoted just over £260 fitted and balanced, not too bad.

Lets hope stick knows better than MCN :D:D

Tyres

Lets hope stick knows better than MCN :D:D

Yes let’s hope so:D at least he has had loads of different tyres on a GS, looks like MCN we’re testing them on a RS which is a different style of bike, smaller front wheel, traditional front suspension, I am sticking with stick:thumby:

If you have not tried the PR5 , they are a good tyre , not as long lasting as the CTA3 but turn even faster as the profiles are steep , the rear is skinny and steep , takes a bit of getting used to as it falls into the bends , great on fast twisty mountain sections , but they do wear fast .
Somewhere I have a comparison of the profiles of the RT01 against the PR5 and its incredible the difference in sport profile of the PR5 compared to the RT01 . That was the set I took to Spain when I binned the RT01 as I did not like the front.
The CTA3 are a great set of road tyres and pleased you have found them so.

Cheers Stick, definitely pleased. Had I not read the CTA3 review, it would probably be the PR5's on my bike now.
Whilst I like chasing-on on the back roads and A roads, sometimes, I have to do long MWay journeys so I wanted a bit of longevity for the possible Euro trip 2-up fully laden...

If it inspires confidence in you then it’s the right tyre. The stickiest, fastest tyre on the planet means zilch if you don’t gel with it.

The next guy might ride rings round us all on a tyre that scared the pants off you. That’s the nature of tyres. There is no right or wrong answer within sensible parameters of fitment.

Agree 100%...loving the CTA3's. The Annakees never let me down, just felt a bit "wooden". Great tyre-life tho, and a tyre I would use again if I was doing a long trip, just for longevity!

Stick is the resident tyre advisor .You read it here :D

Average Gs biker not use more than 2 sets of tyres before changing new bike.

Cheers , lots of reviews are not GS specific and your right the RS , or whatever bike they get tested on is not a genuine comparison to make for the GS , its a bike like no other due to the suspension and I feel that the general reviews are not related to the gs at all. What I do know is that I ride only for pleasure so I want the best for the time i'm out riding , I normally ride 4 rides a month ish , min 250 up to the big 400 miles so it the tyres get a good test on back roads and fast roads , not just a journo review. I wish to give a view on the GS as its ridden over described roads so folks can get a few clues to the rite tyre . Thanks for the support.

Good on you , and happy days :thumb:thumb

I‘ve met Brick walls that knew better than MCN.

A fair and very valid point

However Neevesy does tend to be able to test tyres well as do all the other professional reviewers who I assume get to try many varied tyres on many varied bikes and even if Nieves is a cock I suspect he does more miles on more tyres on more bikes than our Stick

Missing the point again, I do all the miles on a gs not to quote you ' varied tyres on many varied bikes ' …so yes I do have more experience than the guy you mention with the Gs , you just wont let it go will you .
I have tried to be honest and you just keep bitchin

PST2. Best tyre for fast road riding (and overall durability) on the GS. :-)
