You have my sympathy.

12 months ago I had a similar spot of bother. Local blade in a suped-up Rover 200 t-boned me. I had the choice of dropping it there and then, hitting the deck to be run over by the car as well as the bike or staying with it and parking the bike in the hedge at speed. I took to the hedge and had a lie down for a couple of moments in a field. This a fortnight before my anual euro trip:blast. Went to France on a loan Honda 1000F. Not a GSA, but it did what it said on the tin...

That was about £4K to repair as well, including a pair of ally panniers! Full recovery from the third party but what a palaver getting there. So much hassle...

Like me, I hope you were OK. Bodies mend eventually, and bikes can be mended but a bit of a sod on a practically new one...

Best of luck.

Ohh man
I am sorry to here about this!
Hope that you are well and you had a soft landing . The insurance should provide you with a loan bike soon :rob you need to go to work :thumb

Suggestion - Get BMW Accident Management involved. They have an interest in getting the bike repaired by a BMW dealer, and quickly. They should get your insurance company sweating....

There is no reason why your insurance co. should be dragging their feet.

Worry about liability later and reclaiming costs fro the 3rd party later; thats your insurance company's job too and one they have a vested interest in.

Good advice :thumb2 Having had a 12 month old VW Polo rear ended recently it can be a slow and painful process .... if it's clearly the 3rd party's fault getting a hire vehicle tends to focus their minds because it'll be their insurer that has to foot the bill .... eventually!
Stu.

If it was his fault then you should be hiring a replacement bike on his insurance. At £70 plus per day the cost alone will hustle his insurance company along nicely!!

You've been hit in the rear - the other party is 100% liable.

Your insurance should be offering you alternative means of transport ? Do you have uninsured loss cover ?

Get your finger out man.

also worth a thought ,once your bike has had an insurance claim on it ,its worth less money when you come to sell/trade in .
really you should be compensated for that too.

How is it worth less? Its not recorded anywhere unless its written off.

Good luck with getting compensation on that issue...its part of the risk of taking to the road with any vehicle.

I had something similar jan 2011. Picked my brand new gsa up after it was on order for 3 months on the 4th Jan. On the 8th of jan, after 84 miles, i stopped behind a transit pickup at a junction, only for him to start reversing and hit the front of my bike with me and the misses on it.

The claim came to £750. He never informed his insurance company. So i telephoned them, only for them to say they would only act after 3months or if he telephones them and admits resposibility. Had to go through my insurance.

11 months later, a week before we was to attend court, he finally admitted responsibilty and i got my cheque.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, and i hope you get it sorted quickly

I agree with windy, i cant see how it is worth less providing it has been repaired by a bmw dealer with original parts.

The only time it would be worth less and needs to be declaired is if it is a cat d write off, or a cat c beyond economical repair.

My accident in Aug 2010 has just been settled fully in my favour. However, my wife who was pillion and had broken ribs is still waiting. They did offer 2k which inclues a £400 helmet and £200 jacket. We told them to "do one".
They take the piss with part 36 offers. It takes ages. No wonder these PI solicitors are raking it in.

yes it is recorded, and yes if you had it hpi ,in the future it would show up that an insurance claim had been paid out on it .
yes it may only be a cat d or c ,but it would definatly show up on an hpi check.

Bollocks.

well i beg to differ,in 2006 i bought a 2004 micra,i had it hpi,d an even though it had had a wing and headlight replaced after a minor colision ,and the insurance had paid for the repair it did show up on an hpi report.

You say you bought your micra in 2006, things might of changed.

Did you pay less than its market value because it had a replacement wing and headlight?

I was run down by a reversing lorry a couple of years back, got me one of them GS things as a loaner for a trip around the Pyrenees, what I should have done is kept the loaner until it was sorted out, advising the other bods insurance company it might be in there best interest to sort it out fast as the cost to them is rising

Next time...
