Just been quoted for a set of pr3's at £245. The rear was W rated. I assume the V rated one(which would have to be ordered) is the two up with luggage trial specific one. Tyre shop didn't know. One is 10/80/10, the other is 20/60/20. Don't know which is which. Anyone shed any light?? Cheers.

I have a set on mine. Just from looking at the tyre there's nothing I can see to differentiate between the two versions. When they were delivered both the front and rear had stickers on with a TL suffix which means its the trail version. Maybe they only make the one version in the GS wheel sizes :nenau

PR3's

Crossan motorcycle ltd. £220 free delivery, if you haven't ordered them yet. That is the max trail versions, if any use to you

W & V is the speed rating of the tyre not sure what the 10/80/10 refers to:nenau and Pilot 3 is a pure road tyre so trail spec again!!
Have a search on here there is bound to be more than enough info on tyres.
Hope that helps

The trail version of the PR3 has a different ratio of soft/hard compounds from the standard rear tyre. Thats what the 10/80/10 means - there's 10% soft at each of the edges and 80% harder compound in the middle. Its supposed to be more in tune with a heavily laden big adventure bike. The standard tyre I think has 30/40/30 percentages. Its nowt to do with the tread pattern.

10-80-10 is the way the tyre is, from side to side. So it is 10% medium, middle 80% harder compound and then the 10% on the other side is medium again. On the other ones not max trail ones, it is a slightly different again. But that is what 10-80-10 is.:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah
Sorry never read the post above, pretty much explains it

Thanks for the replies. I know what the numbers mean. It's telling my tyre shop which one of the two available:
150-70-17V Or 150-70-17W is the trial version.
I was thinking that the slower V rated was the two up with luggage version.:nenau

The front PR3 is only available in the GS 19 inch rim size with V speed rating. I would assume that the matching rear tyre would also be V rated.

Oh - and in repsonse to the posting further up the thread, the "TL" marking means it's a TubeLess tyre - nothing to do with it being the trail version ;-)

I stand corrected. It would be nice if there was some ident on the tyre wall as well. Now I don't really know what I've got. Eventually I suspect I will be able to see where the compounds meet and decide then.

Excellent tyre. Onto my second set now and will be sticking with them for the foreseeable,

If it helps the PR3 version aimed at the GS actually has the word 'Trail' on the sidewall, saw a set on a GSA yesterday and looked very nice too, will definately fit some once my Dunlp TR91's wear out (another fine tyre if I may say so).

Hi all,
Went to replace my PR3's, or at least get the price and I got the following comments....confirmed by Michelin themselves... The PR3 is now no longer manufactured.....! They are preparing for the next version.... no comment on what that is other than it's due out in 2013! The PR3's are still available if the stockists have them? but no more from Michelin themselves.... Typical get something that works and they ................ Let's hope the next version is even better...

Your right TJD,
My local Protyre could only get a rear from Michelin. Said the fronts would be three months! Crossan in N-Ireland only had rears. Managed to get a set from Bike Tyres Leeds - £227.50 delivered next day. Hope they last longer than the Anakee2's.:thumb2

Why have they discontinued the PR3's do you know? They have hardly been out for very long anyway. Having just fitted two sets to my bikes and I go through 2 rears to 1 front I hope I can still get them for a while yet anyway.

I do know that Michelin produce these tyres in batches, & in the past it has resulted in them being difficult to get hold of; could be the case now ?:nenau

Okay was a bit concerned as i would like a set of these as my next tyres.
I called bike tyre in Leeds as far as they are concerned the tyre is still in production. They said they have had a wee run on these lately and are a little low in stock however should only take a couple weeks to come in.

Dario :)

me thinks this is rubbish. need to replace the front, called my local daler and told him the story. he said, "thats strange, the Michelin man was here today and said nothing, and thre PR3's are new".......

pr3

No problems getting a pair here, http://www.nationalbiketyres.co.uk
