Michelin road 5 trial superb.

They must be better than PR4's then, I was getting around 3,500 miles to a rear, and just as many punctures :) I ended up switching to a Road 4 GT on the rear instead of a trail, they gripped, but longevity was not one of their traits.

Please tell us how to get 12K from a set of tyres

I don't really know, maybe I'm smoother than most, I tend not to break or accelerate very hard, but it's not like I never do it. Most of my riding is not done on city streets, maybe 10% of the mileage, 30-40% highway at moderate to high speeds and the rest on secondary roads at reasonable speeds. I like to engine break, almost never use the rear brake.

Done just 60k miles on my 2010 GSA on various tyres, Tourance Next, PR4s etc, never got less than 6k from those, not significantly more either if I recall correctly.

Best mileage so far has definitely been on the PR5 Trails, am on my second set, first set changed after 12k, but had some thread left, second set has been in use about 5k, plenty of thread left but I'm probably gonna change the rear at next service due to puncture repair. Probably gonna go with Roadsmart 3 which I liked the feel of better and seemed to me to have almost as good wear.

But it's not like I'm a feather weight or especially gentle.

If I should hazard a guess as to why I get good mileage out tyres its probably because most of the mileage is done on 300-500 mile days where they get to work at operating temps. Use about 33psi front and 44 in the rear, sometimes a psi or two more, never less.

How much tread was left when you removed them at 12k miles?

Can I ask what the difference in feel is between PR5s and Dunlops?

Didn't look at it too close, but figure I could've gone at-least 1k more on the rear, more on the front.

The PR5's wanders more easily on the road, not as good at keeping a straight line, think it has a significantly pointier profile than the RS3's which are more rounded, predictable and less "skittish". Its all nuances though, nothing pronounced. Got nothing bad to say about PR5's.

Kinda interested in trying out the Pirelli Angel GT2 though, used to run the predecessor on my old R1200R and really liked them for grip and feel. Very confidence inspiring but used to barely go to 6k on that lighter bike. Supposedly the GT2 are supposed to last longer.

Really? And they don't burst? ;)

Yes, I plead guilty to being a twat and forgetting the all-important decimal point! To clarify; I run at two POINT two and two POINT four bar. Please do not try to inflate your tyres to 10 times these pressures as it may damage your tyres. Alan

Have Michelin dropped the pilot name from their road trial tyres ,as I have used the pilot road 4 trial tyres for a few years and now they only do the road 5 trial range

Yes, they are now called Road 5 Trail.

They are excellent tyres.

I have never had more than 5.5k out of any rear tyre in the past, and then they have been pretty close to illegal, if not illegal, and squarer than a square thing.

My last R5T was changed after 7.5k, by then it was cupping badly but it was still legal, and it had obviously squared off, but no where near as bad as other tyres I've used. I reckon it would have been legal for about another 500 to 1k, I had noticed the handling was not as smooth, but didn't realise how bad it had got (handling wise) until I rode out with a new set.

Just fitted a rear ,but still have the pr4 trial on the front hopefully it’s compatible ,time will tell

I've got PR5,s on, bloody good tyres never had any problems with sliding wet or dry, solo or two up. replacing the rear this week as its now totally knackered

I’ve just fitted my 3rd rear I hadn’t noticed the handling had changed but oh my god it felt good on a new rear!
Ive just managed 4K out the last one would of probably of done another 700 but I picked up a massive thorn from the farmers doing hedge cutting

Sorry to resurrect the thread - but road trail 5s are absolutely garbage

Been three runs lately , big slides from back tire on each run - complete waste of time - throw them in the bin

Never had your experience with trail 5.
They have been superb, wet or dry, cold or hot.
Can I have your unwanted ones?

Had loads of sets of these tyres, best I've ever had, spot on especially in the wet and I get best part of 6k out of a rear tyre. So good I've just taken delivery of the new 6's and once I've worn out the originals on my 1250 they'll be going straight on.

Just ordered a set of Road 6's as well, tyres on mine have only done 1500miles but trip to Spain/Portugal in May will see them off and I think the way things are going right now prices will only go up and maybe shortages too.
