Michelin Road Pilots

Nope ,there old hat ,just put some annakee 2s on good in any situation ,they wear well too :thumb

Unless they are the new Pilot Road Adventure tyres....based on the Anakee 2 carcass but with a road tread;)

My local tyre dealer really rates the Pilot Roads for the GS, he said the PR's are very good and available for sensible money and apparently they have been updated over the years so are not as far behind PR2's / Roadsmarts as you may imagine - still failed to convince me though, I went with Roadsmarts.

I was interested in Michelin's Pilot Road 3, untill I got a price quote from my tyrecentre (quotes for a set, incl balancing and work) : Michelin PR3 330€, Dunlop Roadsmart 265€. As I'm over the moon with Roadsmart, I stuck with these.

I wonder if the PR3 are worth the extra charge, so I'd love to read some reports on PR3. BOT ?

|Ive been offered ROad Pilots for £158 a pair fitted, Anakees are on back order at the moment with the fitter I normally use. Hence the question.

I've run standard Pilot Roads recently (not version 2 or 3).

Got 3k out of the rear and was well worn out, front should do double.

Must be all the back roads I use, constantly braking and accelerating that does it. Not sure how they would work out for mileage on boring main roads.

(on 1200GS)

I'm currently running a PR1/PR3 combo, now up to 3K (don't know exactly, I tend to just use 'em) Roughly 1.5K has been loaded with Varios and 2.5K has been around France. The rear has finally squared off today. Bear in mind a PR3 is a PR2 with a different tread cut. I was expecting lots of rain, April and Northern France tends to involve torrential rain at some point, not this April! Starting to wonder about a PR1/Anakee 2 combo. Other than that the PR3 has been as expected in line with my experience of PRs, that is. Still prefer Michelins to Dunlops' Roadsmarts. YMMV.

I ran about 3 sets of Pilot 2 rear, Pilot 1 fronts on a 1200 over 3 years of commuting in all weathers and a mix of motorway/fast A road, plus miles of tedious filtering, and a couple of 2k miler Euro jaunts

Compared to tyres I'd previously used (old Tourances and usual BM oem tyres etc.) the biggest difference was massive milages and far better wet weather grip. I'm amazed how little milages the other posters are reporting as I regularly got 20k front 14k rear and I don't hang about.

I suspect their ultimate dry weather grip isn't as good as other tyres but I rate them very highly for commuting or long distance touring

Have you used these, Guy.....?

Not Yet Mike, they are on order and should be here shortly, I decided to change as I am deffo unhappy with the Conti Trail Attacks after they start to square off, and didn't want to go back to Tourances as although they are a good tyre they don't turn in as well as the Conti's....
and at £144 delivered (but not fitted) they seem a good buy
when they are on I'll let you know what I think :thumb

Snap! 1500 miles down to the Sarf of Englandshire and back last week and with just over 5K on them - pretty remarkable in itself - although the rear doesn't look too bad, it certainly doesn't want to turn any more. The front is quite badly feathered and is beginning to develop cracks where the base of the blocks joins the carcass.

I've got a pair of Road Attacks, kindly donated by Bike Magazine, gawd knows how long ago, sitting in the shed, along with a pair of slightly worn Anakees which are probably even older. I'm undecided between fitting one of these pairs, although my local, friendly BMW Motorrad dealership won't fit the Road Attacks because they're not on the fitment list for the GS and getting something new, up to now, Dunlop TR91 and you've just gone and complicated things even further.....:blast

I've got 3.5k on the new one now (last 1500 round scotland) and the tourances are shagged. Back to trail attacks for me as I prefer he way they ride and I seemed to get a comfortable 5-6 k out of them. Do agree with about the squaring off though.

Spoke to the tyre supplier today and they are on back order, rear is in, but the front isn't due till Mid MAY FFS !:nenau
Anyways, hopefully I'll fit a part worn pair of Tourances as the rear TA aint gonna take me much further:thumb2

Pilot Road 3

Michelin Pilot Road 3 Tyres
I've been told today by tyre supplier that according to Michelin, front and rear sizes for the R1200GSA / GS will not be available until September at the earliest.
Can anyone confirm if are any available in the UK at the moment. I was hoping to get them fitted before I head off to the Pyrenees in early June.
Cheers
Mac
