Day 5
Stutgart to Timmellschock Pass
217 miles
First stop Decathlon 50 miles away to stock up on pants
South towards Fussen, one of my fave places as it’s where the great escape bike and town scenes were filmed.
Through sonthoffen and about 80 miles of the most amazing roads.
32.5 highest, averaged 30 deg during day. Sweating like a pet dog in a Korean restaurant…….during a recession
Crossed at Imst where I met my escape route from last years RT meltdown . Thanks Steve at rainbow and Ron VS)
Now positioned at bottom of the pass to Italy. Plan is to head to motorcycle museum 3 miles away, then onwards through dolomites to Eastern Italy for the night.
This place is lovely but it’s a ski resort so all closed. Evening meal is a banana, and a dry roll with belly button fluff dressing, washed down with tap water
It is very forward thinking though, there’s even a hotel for men with erectile dysfunction, impressive stuff.
I’ll let pics fill it in …..

Walk into town and treated to a herd of bell jangling cows being herded through the narrow cobbled streets. V quaint.

Walk into town and treated to a herd of bell jangling cows being herded through the narrow cobbled streets. V quaint.

Timmesjoch to Eastern Italy / Slovenian border.
162 miles.
So got going early ish, amazing accommodation it was too, great breakfast.
Timeljoch was……OK. As a tolled alpine road the Grosslockner is leagues ahead, but nice anyway. Got a good clean run through too, no pimply youths racing through dressed as power rangers.
Post that and it was east through the dolomites passing just north of Cortina, named after the famous Ford of the 70s, when the town was founded.
Great passes but hard work hoofing a 2 tonne bike around the slow bits.
Got to digs at about 3, walk into town, it’s a very steep hill on way back, sweating like a scouser at a benefits review meeting.
Plan tomorrow is push east to eastern Slovenia just clipping Croatia on way.
Weather breaking a bit, nice breeze this evening, starting early will hopefully keep me dry.
Very disappointing that there were no ski jumps on way…….

Baby Transfugarrassan…….. ooh there’s an idea ….
Parked and leg stretch, the older I get the earlier I park up on these tours.
Partly because I want to take in the locale a bit more, and partly because this is a biggy and I don’t want to end up with an arse like a Japanese flag
