Anyone know the exact type of Mineral oil thats used in the clutch system on my 13 plate 90th anni hexhead ? Linky please if you know where the correct stuff can be had. Ive heard it cant be mixed with earlier types of Mineral oil. :)
Sorted Marki :augie

First of it isn't mineral oil in your brakes, never ever!
As for the clutch it varies and is a different colour depending. Should also add it isn't a service item so no need to change it unless of course you have a problem.

I think you will find that it is Mineral oil in the Clutch and NOT normal brake fluid Although its DOT4 in the brakes according to the Haynes manual. My mistake on the OP re brakes.:blast :D

You buy the colour that matches I guess? Never changed it as there is no need to but a quick search shows there is at least red and blue which cant be mixed without fully flushing. This was just a quick Google so there may be other colours.
Interestingly my quick Google revealed that red is the newer colour from 2005 but my 09 has blue!

Hi del it's the same as castrol Lhm suspension oil,for Citroen rolls Royce,
Magura blood is a similar product in bike brakes , it's hydraulic oil
I use a vw equivalent mineral power steering oil ,
As mentioned it's not brake fluid, don't use a synthetic oil it shrinks the seals

Yes i did the same and ive seen some that was Green ! But however it appears that it isnt hydroscopic so no need to change it, unlike the brake fluid. Im going to do a major service on my bike soon (its only got 4k on the clock) but im doing everything. Inc FD, G/BOX and brake fluid change. So just trying to gather as much info as i can so that im not caught out while im doing it.

I knew about the link to Magura Royal Blood but being equivalent to VAG power steering fluid is a new one. Cheers for that info. I just so happen to have a bottle of equivalent fluid at home for my car.

The vw mineral oil is green and the same as Citroen Lhm, don't use red it's got a synthetic in it,
My lad has been using the vw stuff I his bike brakes for years when we Sussed what it was,

Is there a reason you want to change the clutch fluid? I'm leaving mine well alone (bikes 7 yrs with 36k on it) unless there's a reason to touch it.

No, no reason Beemerman. Im going to do a huge all points service on the beast and just took it that the clutch fluid needed done. But it turns out i was wrong about that (not unusual) lol. So all is well just need to get some grease for the drive shaft splines and im good to go.:thumb2

As I have some already for my K1100RS splines I use HondaMoly60 for these - seems to work ok although anything with a high moly content should be fine too.
