If you had said that about the 1150, I would agree with you, but I wouldn't describe the 1200 as weedy above 85mph.

ok bob weedy may be the wrong term but it aint strong thats for sure
two up with all the luggage it isnt exactly pulling up tree stumps it improved slightly with a full remus cos it cleared that glich just above 50thou
for a 1200 motor it could be a lot better ...yes if you hammer it in forth and fifth it will pull to a ton quite quicky .through the gears its well quick enough but it hasnt got the grunt in the higher gears you would expect from a 1200.....

i think its cos it revs only to 7500 and makes most of its power well before that about 6500 as felt through the seat could be wrong
or that 6th is a tad to tall ..lot better than the 1150 though
it is the way it make the power ie impressive lower down the saccrifice being higher up the gearbox but from 80 up in top fast it deffo aint
this is just my honest opinion
bear with me that firestorm engine 1000cc 20 percent less cubes
it pulls well low down not as well as the gs but there not alot in it but when you hit say 60 i top gear it just romps away with it
same hosepower about 100 ...making the pwer differently speading it outover a higher rev range and again pulling about tenty percent more weight .. they just seem to have the balance struck alittle better with the gearing and torque curve
it really is a peach of a engine which endears you more to disregard some of ithe bike other shortcomings

just dug up an old posting of mine so you can see it was bothering me before all the shit hit the fan some intresting responces as well

Minky,

Have you actually done a side to side comparison of both bikes and compared them that way?

no bob bit difficult at the moment but quite prepared to do it
there no doubt at all which is the stronger motor if it was in the gs with all that weight shaved off it would be awsome
first thing you notice when you ride one is the motor and the comfort and weather protection ..short oe screen accepted
mines a carbed version which is said to be abit stronger than the injection with cats and stricter emmision s and that i dont know but honestly you cant help but be imoressed by it in top gear turn the throttle two up luggae and all and it just pulls sweet as a nut
first thing you notive two up is the soft suspension also but have cured that with progressive springs
as i say the gs isnt slow as such but not as strong higher up the range may even be alittle quicker hammered through the gears but never in the higer ones ..what can i say ???
took me by surprise when i fist rode it cos all the press slate it ..but unless your really pushing it does the touring thing as well as the gs and in some cases better [comfort weather protection less harsh ride front is harsh on the 1200 for sure ] .. its not sour grapes
just trying to tell it how i find it

its not the mines faster argument cos i was doing blackbirds and fire blades before gses so all this is relavent ie they reall are quick

it really does get slated bu these press people ...they mostly think pillions are for carrying elecricity and a tour to them is nipping down to devon for a cream scone
i was as guilty as anyone in disregarding it now i know better

please realize if it wasnt any good id say so and tell everyone to keep away

richie
im getting 42 43 to the gallon on average best 202 to the fual light and worst 170 but iwas giving it some usually aroung 22litres to fill so i think its around ten percent more thisty than the gs overall
i was getting around 200 with twenty or just over litres to fill

thats it really what more can you say

ta for the reply, is it a five speeder???

hi richie

UBG quotes fuel consump for five speed at 35mpg
they say
"main bad points are enormous seat height,so hopeless for shorties and terrible
fuel consumption, which bites into its appeal as a long distance tourer.fuel consumption improved a little in 2003 with the introduction of fuel injection.six-speed gearbox another welcome advantage over thew origonal."

seat height not a prob obviously if you're used to a gs.
hope this was some help
