At the end of August Me and my Dakar headed south and East to Misano for the San Marino Round of the MotoGP series. I had arranged to meet up with ASIF on the way, at Lake Como, from there we rode across Northern Italy to Rimini and camped with his family. Apart from Stoners crash, it was a great trip...my first, and I hope the first of many, despite the fact that the Dakar is still in Saarbruchen, Germany after it was killed by the rain in the Rhineland!

Heres a slideshow...

I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I enjoyed taking them :beerjug:

Feck me, you and Snoopy are jinxed.

I hope the bike problems haven't dampened (see what I did there :D:D:D) your enthusiasm for the Dak.

Looks like you had a good time fella.

Has the snorkel been cut down????? I've ridden through some really heavy rain on our trip, I've splashed my way through a million mini lakes on the lanes and have never had a problem like this :nenau:nenau

With the standard snorkel, it would be very hard to get a large amout of water into the airbox.

See ya on the lanes soon fella :thumb

Wat happened was...if you cast your mind back to my pre trip threads...

The airbox had been modified by some genius, by removing the breather from the airbox and taping over the hole, and...(as I NOW KNOW!!!!) plugging the drain pipe from the airbox...I imagine his idea was to increase pressure in the box...what a feckin great idea!!!!!

I had repaired the breather to standard, and thought all was OK...but major rain in the Rhineland caused this problem as the only place the rain could go, was down the breather! I think if I had left the breather modified...this wouldn't have happened...the motor would just have begun to cut out, duw to lack of air!

At least I know what was the cause, and no...it hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for the Dak, it's truly a great bike, and I miss it already, back on the VFR now, which is a fabulous and trusty steed!

I just want the effing thing back from Saarbruchen so I can begin to rebuild the motor (the BMW techs say there's a noise from the bottom end...but I didn't notice anything untoward, no loss of power...just overheating...will have to wait and see)...no idea when I'll have it back on the road...still a couple of weeks before I get it back...then motivate myself to strip the bike...etc...

Still got the XR tho, so will be back on the lanes sometime soon.

And...yep...I did have a fab time, and can't wait to do it again...won't bother going to Eastern Italy again tho...didn't think much of it there at all

Cheers mate :beerjug:
