My dealer :spl1f: reckons I'd be OK to mix the Castrol GP 10/40 that I used on my 1150 with their new(ish) 12/50 oil. As I have about 10 litres of the old stuff, that would be nice...

However, as I know nowt about owt :nenau, does anyone who does have a clue care to cast their vote as to whether this is likely to f-up my nice new 1200GSA.

Saving a couple of quid and risking an engine makes no sense (so I'll probably do it :blast)

As they say, "Whale Oil, Beef Hooked" (say it quickly...):D

Cheers,

Martyn

Im not expert but i would say different viscosity wouldnt match so well, you are wanting to add thicker oil.

but im probably wrong!!

As long as you don't try to mix different types of oil (IE Fully synthetic and mineral) then you'll be fine. (even then, in theory, you should be o mixing purely mineral with purely synthetic but I wouldn't do it meself)

Mixing different viscosities of the same type of oil is fine- you'll just end up with an oil with the average viscosity ratings of the two, dependant on the volumes mixed.

There's a really good website with loads of info on Oils HERE that may be of interest :)

I wouldnt hesitate to mix them on my own bike but you have to take the decision for yourself.
