Afternoon all.

After a hiatus of five years I'm very pleased to be back in the fold with a 2016 LC that I bought last weekend.

For the time being I want to use my phone as a sat nav. Could I ask if anyone can help with the following :

I was thinking of buying one of these one of these : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08S6TC5D5/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A1RH8XEU1G9Z4L&psc=1 ,

is the socket to the right of the dials (image attached) a power socket that can be used with such a mount for keeping the phone charged ?

Many thanks

I had this same style mount for a while and the power came off the mount. It picked it up from the BMW bracket and then the cable they show in the ad goes from your phone to a USB on the side of the mount. No need to go near the ciggy socket.

Thanks for getting back to me Andy.

At risk of appearing a bit thick; I thought the Amazon holder I linked to did not require the BMW sat nav holder to fit in /on; rather it fixes to the metal bracket overhead the dials. This being the case I can't see where the power comes from, unless I plug into what does look like the aux power socket in my image ?

Having looked at the Amazon images again I see what you mean. Mine didn’t come with those brackets and nor did I need them because I was just slotting my bracket into the BMW cradle. Without the cradle you will need an alternative power supply. My bracket came with a cable which, with the right BMW cable could be plugged into the spare socket down near the headstock. Your solution of using the ciggy socket will work just as well if you want to keep everything ‘portable’. 👍

Alan, this is I picture of the complete kit from the back. You can see there are 2 ways to power it. 1. attached directly to the sat nav preparation bracket. 2. Attached to the bar and powered from the included lead with a DIN socket added and plugged into the accessory socket.

I've sent you a PM that may be of interest.

I use one of these - 2 years no issues at all and i ride in all weathers. For £20 you cant go wrong !!

You can replace that little useless din socket with a dual usb socket from wunderlich (or a clone on eBay) definitely worth doing.

I used that exact mount without the BMW GPS mount and wired it into the existing BMW GPS power supply down near the headstock. I used the BMW Connected app on the phone for navigation, it uses Tomtom mapping.
Still use the same GPS software but now have the connected cradle as I have the 1250 with TFT screen.
Still have that mount in the garage somewhere.
