Got the dreaded clunk in 3rd and 5th on my 1100 so, until I can find the time/money to rebuild/replace the gearbox, I`m told it won`t suddenley go wallop which is a good thing :thumb

I was talking to the mechanic at my local dealer the other day and he suggested I put Molyslip in the gearbox which won`t stop it but may stop it clunking so much.

Any thoughts as to whether I should do this?

It cant hurt it,it was always used on old Ford and Vauxhall whining diff,s to quieten them down a bit[when there was a shortage of sawdust]. I dont think it will make a huge difference to heavy clunking tho.

Molyslip could well finish it off a lot quicker. I remember a fuss years ago when molyslip was causing roller bearings to skid instead of rolling, obviously knackering the bearings up at a hell of a rate.

There's only one way to find out for sure and increase the knowledge of the collective :thumb2

Where can I buy snake oil for my 1100? Do Motobins do it? :nenau

Its becoming difficult to get. BUT its your lucky day, as I have some spare. Obviously, what with the petrol tanker strike, there is a lot of people after it, so its not cheap.
send me a wad of used fivers and I'll post you a tub

Couldn`t find any Snake Oil and the Molyslip is adefinate no no so it`s having a gearbox rebuild.

Probably cheaper in the long run :thumb

Molyslip / Molykote.... or is it MollyMalone?!

dunno - coz you cant buy it in Ireland anyhow
but i'm supposed to (according to the expert "Guzziology" and the owners handbook) use it in my Guzzi gearbox.

i have put it in a few times when i've got it in the U.K.

dunno if this is relevant - but the only major work on my Guzzi Cali3 has been...

a replacement gearbox.

it's in the factory manuals to use it in the bevel box. can't remember about the gearbox, but i don't think so :o

:blast come to think about it.... :blast
you are of course correct;
in the bevel box / not the gearbox.

if you see my brain anywhere... please return it.
i've one lost and lonely brain cell wandering around between my ears - looking for company. :o
