Mono Final Drive. Curiosity question.

I have a1989 R80 Mono sidcar outfit.

The sidcar has been converted to use the Mono rear wheel. I've been wondering about fitting a sidcar brake using a mono FD unit, utilising the oe brake.

Question is, to do this, would I leave the drive gear in there, or can it be removed without causing problems with the bearing?

Use a front wheel hub with a disc on it?

As per your existing set up, FD unit on the inside or the outside of the wheel?

You can remove the large bevel gear on a lathe (as per the repair instructions) which I believe (happy to be corrected here) means removing the bearing inner race then replacing it after removing the bevel drive. If you left the drive shaft (smaller) pinion in it would act as a seal, or you could make up a blanking plate or use a swingarm to hold the whole thing in place. Perhaps. An interesting project!

Just use it complete, you will turn the input flange, but so what?
The only other alternative is to remove the input shaft completely and blank the opening, but this requires special tools to dismantle the pinion and to reinstall the main pinion inboard and output bearings and seal.

Fair point. The ultimate plan is to have four interchangable wheels and the front wheel won't drive the bike. Yeh, I know. But I have a plan......

Not much drag,
But more ,perhaps, than you’d want on a sidecar wheel.
