:D

I'd been watching YouTube videos and reading of bear attacks in both Montana and Alaska, quite sobering because it seems a bear may not be interested in killing you but often of eating you......and you don't necessarily need to be dead for that.... although it would be preferable!

Brilliant ride report. :D
Cracking pitchers too. :thumb2

I do enjoy reading peoples trip reports and looking at the pics.

Montana is great and Missoula is a starting point for the US12 across Idaho (one of the best bike roads I've ever ridden).

Thoroughly enjoyed that Tim, many thanks.

As others have said, the USA has some unimaginably truly beautiful places to discover, much like Canada...The nature is simply breathtaking, as is the geology.

People are nice generally as well, very hospitable, warm and friendly.

I had no thoughts of returning...But this report disrupts that thought pattern.

Humm.... your pal needs to go to specs savers! a bear charging at 30mph will cover about 43ish feet per second. So at bear charging and at 30 feet from you would need a mate
who could could draw his weapon, cock it, release the safety, aim and fire it all in less than one second?
I'm heading for ladbrooks to put a bit get that he'd become bear lunch!:hapybnce:
Nice pics btw

Hmmmm are you a car driver? :D

Perhaps the answer to your calculation would be different if the gun was drawn, cocked, safety off and aimed 'before' the bear begins it's charge.

Probably the only way for it to be effective which I'm sure he knows :beerjug:

Woosh............:D

Bear guns..........

The first one against my chest is a .50 cal and available across the counter for about $500.

The second one is a .468 cal which my mate Bill always carries when out on his bike and when he's with us an a trip. I've got size 11 mitts so you can see the size of the bloody thing as well as the slug which being a flat head, would make a real mess of a big Grizzly.

I'm trying to get a licence to carry one on our next trip in June and it's not for unruly customers ;)

If you ever come on an Alaska trip Tim, I'll make sure you have one cocked and ready:rocketwho

Blimey Sarge, the kick off either of those is likely to put you on your arse!
Still remember Skygod fondling a .50 cal rifle in Fairbanks with a very strange look in his eye.

Superb trip report & pictures TG..

Thoroughly enjoyable read there Tim, thank you. Your photos are good enough to feel we went with you…sort of :beerjug:

SgtBilko, please get that trip looked at :thumb2

.: SUPERB :.

Fantastic pictures as usual from your goodself, with the words helping fill in the gaps :thumby:

Having only ever visited the lower, mainly hotter parts of the US for work or family doings, never, ever has the thought of going to the States with a bike entered the space between my ears . . . till I read your ride / drive report.

Many, many thanks for sharing and for stimulating a seed of a plan.

Looks like a fabulous trip :thumby:

I went to Yellowstone in 2014 from Denver via the Black Hills and only saw a small part of Montana, but I’d love to go back. Real cowboy country

Watched the film “Backcountry” yesterday. Based on a true story of a couple taking a short camping hike in the woods. They ‘met’ a black bear that basically ripped the guy apart and ate him. On the basis of that film, I would NOT be relying on an aerosol can. I would definitely have one of those bear guns
