Apparently this is an old watch tower built by the Portuguese around 500 years ago, this one is in good condition because it's close to the oasis and was maintained over the years.
Apparently !
The building in the back ground was the watchy's house.

Hey Moon, been following your thread with great interest as I'll be arriving there very soon. How have you found the issue of securing your bike over night? Has it really been an issue or is there always a simple solution to hand? Just curious if its even a concern.

Pete

Good question.

When I've camped bike is next to tent. No problem.
In hotels most expect u to want to store your bike off the street and will have prevision, there are so many hotels even in the smallest towns, if they can't store your bike securely then try another.
Enjoy your trip.

Hi john,
I got to Zagora yesterday, was way too hot for me ! It was 30c at 8am, guy in hotel said it would be 45c in the desert. I'm gonna come back when it's cooler ! (Oct if anyone interested).
I tried but missed ur birthday, sorry. we'll catch up. Soon. I'm in Marrakech, had a bizarre day! Found my self riding with the Libya Rally, got some great pics.

Was mid 30's when we were in zagora and using 40 in desert.... We went out in a land cruiser and came across a Dutch guy in a buggy type thing. He had run out of water and was very lucky we found him.... In middle of night we had a sand storm and wind so strong it blew our tent (like a garden shed) door open and it was like someone chucking buckets of sand in....I couldn't push door back as wind was so strong.. They have nothing in the desert but they made me a birthday cake out of sand and used sugar cubes to decorate it.... I'll save you a piece..!!! Fantastic people.

Well.
I stopped for a wee today, 8,000 ft above sea level. In the Atlas Mountains, there is nobody for hundreds of miles ! I see this ! A body, s**t I think, don't even know who to call. He's over the other side of the track I ride over & think he might not be dead, so I beep horn, Rev engine and skid to a stop. Nothing, I get off the bike, walk about 50 yards from him & pick up a stone throw it at his hand.
Stone is a bit bigger than I thought, my accuracy is bad & I hit him on the side of the head! Yes he was alive when I sped off !!!
They are everywhere !!!!!

The Libya Rally:

There I was minding my own, gently pootling down the windy mountain road when whoosh, 5 KTM's fly past me doing about 60 mph on the winding road, so me being me thought I can do that, Jesus, it was scary, they were flying in and out of cars & trucks doing break neck speeds, no way could I keep up. I gets to the bottom of the mountain and I can just see the last KTM in the distance, the road is as straight as can be with not a bit of traffic, so I opened up the GS, even fully loaded it goes!!!
I catch up to the last KTM (he's got no mirrors), I'm on such a straight I'm going about 100 mph or more, I pass this KTM like it's standing still, I'm sure I gave the bloke a fright. I'm not up on my KTM's but they were nice, deffo not the big 990 or 1000cc (pic in a min) I'd say they were 600's or something of that ilk (please correct). I then passed the 4, 3rd, 2nd was just about to pass the leader when I glanced in my mirror and the F ing biggest quad I've ever seen flew passed everything doing above 120mph! I passed the leader, purely because of the bike ! and nothing to do with any skills I have, which was about to be proven. so off I zoomed, feeling quite smug, I continues on for about an hour of so forgot all about my KTM chums, roads, turn into bends, bends turning to very windy bends, which inturn go up another mountain. Whoosh ! Bastards! I though that they were flying down the mountain. Going up it was different again, they were riding like they were possessed, passing cars on blind bends, then nipping in the last second. leaving the tarmac (ok road surface) and blasting round trucks. I'm thinking nope ! not even gonna think about that !
The mad thing is, they rode like that, which is what they do I get that, then 45 mins later I pass them all at the side of the road having a fag & some coffee! some pics:

I stopped for a bite to eat (there's another tale), then the Rally came past again, got some photos, but they could have been better. sorry.
