Morocco HUMM May 2015

Oh yes definitely, we need to be somewhere close the night before and get the first ferry next morning. From what I have read the Algeciras-Tangier ferry is the one to go for.

I'm not fussed where we stay either but the holiday inn express looks good too.
I've also read the Algeciras- Tangier ferry is the best one. Has anyone read any diffrent ?

Hi Pikey

I'm riding down from Holand and meeting Pete in France then meet up with the others in Santander then down to Morocco.

LOL, just finished reading the whole thread and now realise what a silly question that was. I may have my Mrs on board, is anyone else bringing a partner?

That happens to the best of us:beerjug:

so are you planing on riding riding down with us into Morocco then a "tour" after the humm ?

Yes, I would get the ferry to Brittany then head south and either meet the group at Santander or Palencia, then travel down through Spain towards Ceuta. Not planning on doing the Humm thing, but that may change but I would like to do Bazzers circuit tour with the group, I'm more for cheap hotels/Guest houses as it will mean I don't have to take all my camping stuff.

I know of a Villa with pool in Coin that we could stay at for free, it's about 1 hour 15 minutes from the port, some may have to sleep on the floor. Also a mate of mine who speaks 6 languages fluently including French/Spanish wants to tag along. We are not worried about doing the Humm event, but it would be nice to tour around as a group. Maybe when you are off doing your competing we could explore for a few days and meet up with you later.

The more the merrier, sounds great to me. We are going to have quite the group crossing into Morocco. Anyone know what time the first ferry leaves Algeciras?

Yeah sounds good to me !

We certainly are going to have a good size group.

Pikey what bike are you and your friend on ?

Andrew

Only joking GSA1200 yellow like a canary. I have ridden with Bazzer before on a massive 2 day expedition to Bodmin Moor ;) He is a fine young man.

If you go with FRS http://www.frs.es/en/ferrys-to-spain-morocco.html the first crossing to Ceuta is at 7:30 arrives at 8:30, If you go to Tangier Med the first boat is 6:00, the price I got for return was £128.00 or £111.00 if you go to Tangier.

Strangely if you book one way it works out at about £45 over and slightly less back.

There's probably other companies, that's just the first one I found on Google, gives you some idea though.

Wow, this is going to be epic. Can i just do a survey to see who will be bringing their tent besides me and Andrew and if so, just out of interest, which tent? If you want to drop me an email Pikey I can send you the spreadsheet I knocked up with dates and locations listed to give us all something to start planning from.

Damm, tarmac! I might to have to bring her along possibly but Ill make that decision further down the road. I think she specifically wants to see a bit of Morocco (or all of it) or nothing.

I do need new rubber soon, was thinking TKCs or H Scouts, can't decide at the moment or the the best time to get them fitted as I wrecked my tourances over Christmas all over Salisbury Plain strangely enough.

My biggest dilemma at the moment is whether to bring canvas or not. Whilst hoteling it is appealing, I've had some cracking nights under canvas and it feels much more like a true adventure if your camped out under the stars.

I am bringing my Mrs along and with all the paraphernalia she likes to bring, probably won't have enough room for a tent and associated camping gear. Is yours definitely coming? It would be good for her to have some female company, last time we were in Morocco I got offered 50 camels for her by a desert tribesman................................why oh why I never took him up on his proposition I'll never know.

Email sent GSTraveller.

I will bring a tent, I quite like the idea of a couple of nights camping either in Spain or in the desert.

I think it makes good sense, at least you will then have the option either way.

Insurance??

Time off work booked, new tent, sleeping mat purchased, looking for a cheap and cheerful new lid. The question is, whats the consensus on insurance, my policy is up for renewal anyway. I phoned Carole Nash who said the only underwriters who cover Morocco are Avia and "AGES?" but the policy itself is almost double a normal policy and the green card an extra £30. I'm thinking it would be cheaper to buy it over in Moroc but getting through my UK insurance would be a lot simpler. What is everyone else thinking of doing?

Glad to see everything is starting to come togethe. So far I've got the time off work but not for Italy as of yet but hopefully I'll find out soon.

My insurance is the same and they want almost double to be covered for Morocco. I thought about just getting it in Morocco but haven't looked into that much as of yet but I probably should start looking :)

Talking about cheap and cheerful lids I bought a spada sting a few months back and it's brilliant so far. Didn't expect miricals because of the price but not bad at all.

Just out of intrested what tent and sleeping mat do you have ?
