Is what it is Steve,no biggy.I stayed at the same hotel in San Marino 9 years ago when we did the 13 country's in 6 weeks for me 50th tour.I may post a photo or two

What a day yesterday was on me pins,reckon I walked at least 10 miles in the heat,did I mention it's bloody warm out here
First off,I needed to find the station and buy me ticket for Wednesdays trip into Rome,station found,ticket bought.Then a meander down to the sea and a walk along the coast line.Appears there is a large army barracks here,didn't seem to be much happening

Had a big flag

The reason for walking this way was to nose at this geezers Villa

Apparently he'd left it a few years earlier.
Walking along the road above the beach,the 1st thing you see is this block,nothing to tell you what it is/was,but sat back from the main Villa

Walk a little further and you get the first glimpse of what is to come
Columns and beams from 2000 years ago,just sat in a field.
Onward to the main building,it's size and grandeur can't really be appreciated at this point.

Walk passed the lighthouse and down onto the beach to see the real enormity of this place,what it once was,it's size,the place must have been huge.

This is thirsty work,time for a pitstop,bitta pasta and some suger-only so much water you can drink -and I've had gallons over the last week.

The statue in post #28 looks like a Caligula and aiso Germanicus who is Caligula's father ...... The whole WWII Italy campaign could be considered un-needed, in extremes. Apparently we thought the germans were using the monastery so it was bombed unfortunately, and we were wrong ... There is always going to be mistakes in war and they are easy to see now .... Thanks to the folks taking care of the cemeteries, your doing a fantastic job imo.

Hour back to Anzio on the air conn'd train was bliss.
Out the station quick beer and start the march back up the hill,won't lie,I was struggling, every step was an effort,me feet were feeling it.

Stopped half way for a breather,was a "local bar for local people"

This was mum(the owner)and son(the barman)spoke not a word of English and I,not a word of Italian, but we communicated for half hour which what makes these sort of things great,I love it.
Couple of beers and back on the march,I shouldn't have stopped as me feet were really painful now.
Eventually get back to the B+B-cold shower and bed.

Woke up in the night for a piss and I can hardly walk.
Up this morning,have a gander at me feet and yes,blisters,3/4 on each foot

Out with the tool kit,popped and I am a lot more nimble on the trotters again.



Had a great day,even with the heat and getting lost.
No idea for today,nothing planned so I'll see how I feel a bit later.It won't involve much walking

Some compression socks might be very helpful in your case sir .... I wear them all the time and have for many years ....

Thanks for the tip Larry,I have lymphoedema from a motorbike accident. I wear full on compression tights.Trouble is,in this heat they are unbearable,so its a juggling act.

So, after looking at a few pics of roman busts I have to disagree .... Nero had a short fat face, often with sideburns which is unusual for the emperors. It's not that I think I have to be right, but just simply, it doesn't look like Nero to me. It is possible that Nero actually had busts of his ancestors at his vila and not only of himself ......
Thanks for the great report too, always good to see what things are actually like in these exceptional places ....
I do hate they way the Roman forum was mined for lime and marble and basically destroyed, but at least they saved the Pantheon .....

Thanks for the tip Larry,I have lymphoedema from a motorbike accident. I wear full on compression tights.Trouble is,in this heat they are unbearable,so its a juggling act.

I had those full tights on once for surgery, nigh impossible to wear imo ...
I just use the compression socks up to the knee and for really long days on my feet I will also wrap 3 inch ace bandages from my ankle to knee, very lightly. Some of the three inch ace bandages had a velcro closure so I would reuse them until they were rags ..... As retired I just wear the socks a lot but I do go without them occasionally, and I can't remember the last time I used the aces .... Ride safe sir ....

Now then,good news.I spat the dummy last night,the people upstairs were dragging furniture across there floor at midnight, they had done the same thing the previous night.I went round and knocked on the door,the fella opened it and I gave him both barrels,the feckin prick.He didn't know what to make of the English fella giving it to him.Now I'm going to read between the lines and say they don't like this place being rented out to tourists, just my take on it.
I was packed and gone by 8,I had messaged the owner at 1 in the morning telling her the situation and asking for a partial refund(via Booking.com)Fair play,she refunded me the whole stay,so that pays for my 3 nights in San Marino,great stuff.

Knocked motorways off the nav,was only 122 mile,60 odd miles on a duel carriageway and the rest of the time through villages and mountains(do they class them as mountains) Fantastic route,dismal road surface,glad I wasn't on the RT

Done nothing particular for the last couplew days,rested the leg and some sightseeing. San Marino is a lovely place to visit.

Forecast is wet for tomorrow, should be fun leaving the garage on a double camber

Thanks for doing the write up Gary, I’m now tentatively back on the bike and half planning 2027 or maybe ‘28. Debs loves Greece but TBH I’m just as happy playing in France and Italy. We’ve spoken about dropping into San Marino before and passed by it many times, so it’s good to get a better ‘look’ at the place.

San Marino is definitely worth a visit,dare say you could do all the tourist stuff in a day.The hotel I stayed at(Hotel Rosa)Is the hotel to stay at if you have a bike

Not cheap(€13 a night) but saves a bloody hard walk with all ya gear.

Left San Marino and managed to dodge some torrential thunder storms that persisted for the next 24hours.I've booked into what can only be describes as a mix of Faulty Towers and Guest House Paradiso, but its growing on me
Another wet start to the day yesterday.

Then a rideout to the centre of the Lambretta universe, I was like a dog with 2 cocks.

Water cooled engine.

All things lambretta.

I'm glad I was on the bike or me wallet would have took a hit.As it was i came away with a T shirt.
Today wasn't about the MotoGP,thats tomorrow at Misano.Today was about Europe's biggest claimed auto jumble at the Imola race circuit.
It's big,and bigger still,i got there at 10,left at 4 and I'd done just over half,it was the entire track,mostly both sides.Don't let me photo's deceive you(i waited numerous times to get the best photo i could)It was very busy,something there for everyone as long as you mainly wanted Italian, was a sprinkling of other makes/countries.
Have to tell you,I got a little disabled sticker for the bike(I've bought me blue badge as well)Every time ive been somewhere and had to park close,I've pulled up to people overseeing parking(no matter where it's been)pointed at the sticker and been let through,not paid for parking once, here thet let me park right at the entrance, cracking stuff from the Italians

I thought this was an all encompassing auto jumble but it was mainly bikes,those that had prices on them weren't particularly good value,but then you get to bartering.
Was,a long day,3 hours there and back plus time spent wandering round.I wanted a sitting Michelin man but to no avail(always the next stall)

There’s been an excellent eclectic mix of sights and sites in this trip report.

I recall seeing the little Minarelli bikes racing in the 50cc and 125cc categories at the old Assen circuit. Very competitive, I seem to remember.
