Most things Italian

Hard work in the heat, well done! We stayed 3 nights in May and managed to see most of the main attractions, but there is so much to see that you could stay a month and not get round to it all.

Hour back to Anzio on the air conn'd train was bliss.
Out the station quick beer and start the march back up the hill, won't lie,I was struggling, every step was an effort,me feet were feeling it.

Stopped half way for a breather, was a "local bar for local people" :ROFLMAO:

This was mum(the owner)and son(the barman)spoke not a word of English and I,not a word of Italian, but we communicated for half hour which what makes these sort of things great,I love it.
Couple of beers and back on the march,I shouldn't have stopped as me feet were really painful now.
Eventually get back to the B+B-cold shower and bed.

Woke up in the night for a piss and I can hardly walk.
Up this morning, have a gander at me feet and yes,blisters,3/4 on each foot

Out with the tool kit, popped and I am a lot more nimble on the trotters again.

Had a great day, even with the heat and getting lost.
No idea for today, nothing planned so I'll see how I feel a bit later. It won't involve much walking:beerjug:

Useful words for we travellers -

1) “Scusa, sono inglese e non parlo italiano” Delivered with a smile and apologetic shrug, although it’s somewhat surreal telling them that you don’t speak Italian, in Italian :ROFLMAO:

2) “Vaffanculo’ (F—- you!)
Delivered with a suitable gesture after you’ve been cut up (yet again) by an impatient Italian driver.

A question if I may, please. You seem interested in the structure and order of things. How did you chose what to go to see on the trip?
I try and chose places I've never been to,then I build the holiday around that. This is a five week solo trip(as most of my trips are now solo)You simply can't do 5 weeks on a bike non stop.
For instance,I've stopped for 9 days in Anzio, the original reason was the Anzio landings, then simply build round that.Rome, the monastery, Anzio itself, surrounding countryside/coast to explore.Fair bit made up as I go along, but I make it up for me,no-one else.Doesn't always turn out right but its all part of my experience .
I try not to overly think my trips,I set destinations and go from there (y)

1)Thats easy for you to say :D I just tell em in me best sarf laaandon, ize English innit:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
2)It's either flip the bird or the English hand gesture, they don't understand the hand gesture apparently 🤔 I was told by an Italian on site once that rubbing the underside of your chin was som sort of Italian insult.I've tried it but have no idea on its effect.

Thank you.

That answers the question, perfectly. It’s great to have the time to do what you like and / or as much (or as little) as you fancy. There are no medals for flogging from A to B to C to D just for the sake of it.

Bit of a slower day yesterday, walking was off the menu,so went out for a couple of hours on the bike just nosing round.

This place in it's time has been a Cassino, school, arts centre amongst other guises.
Was also used by allied command during the Anzion landings(Operation Shingle)
Sadly now fallen into disrepair, with hopes the local council will bring it back to life, the locals aren't holding their breath.

Quick stop at a "free" beach, which was surprisingly empty, compared to the paying beaches.

Time for lunch, twice been here, full of locals at a rather decent price.

The owner/cook saw me dipping me bread in the hot oily sauce,he educated me on it's use, spread it over everything he gestured, so I did, lovely.

No idea what these tasteless things are, anyone?

Stop at the shop for a few supplies, plenty of ham to chose from.

Where im stopping

Only in Italy Shirley,2 monks cooking show. When the meal is ready another monk walks through the door and launches into a singsong(religious of course)

Last day in Anzio, out on the bike somewhere is the plan.

They are called Lupini.

It’s a type of beans. You normally eat the bean inside and spit out the skin.
They are common aperitif food/snack (they’re super cheap for the bar to provide).

Yep, not very tasty. :)
Ah,yes or no as the case maybe.I tried a couple, obviously whole with the skin :D Bit pointless, unless you aim to fill up on em,cos I got given a big enough bowl, along with the bowl of olives and rather nice fresh bread. Not forgetting the hot, oily sauce, lovely.

Great stuff, thanks for the write up 👍
Being honest Steve, it's never really been my thing. As I have plenty of time on my hands,it gives me a nice time with a glass of wine/beer to reflect on the day and write it up.Whether anyone(apart from your goodself)gets anything from it,is an entirely different matter:pirate

Loving your (and all who take the time) write up. It is read and appreciated and starts mutiple,work-time wasting daydreams of I need to get my 5hit in a sock and use my bike....

Well that's Anzio pretty much done, tomorrow i move onto Pietrafitta(with zero plans)
Spent a couple of hours out on the bike doing a bit of sightseeing, 1st stop was the local museum which is free(made a donation)

Has 2 side, one all things Anzio and Roman, the other is a personal collection of all things Anzio landings.

Had some interesting anciant pieces.

The other side is a personal collection, only small but very poignant. The films are very near the mark, very unfiltered.

This is the other side of the casino I found yesterday (the sea side)Bet it's got some stories to tell, would love to have a look inside, very grand indeed.

Carried on to Nettuno for a walk around the old town.Pretty run down, hardly anyone around.

Back to the B+B to pack up,shower and back down to town(this time on the bike, wasn't getting stuck there again)
Me and a very good mate(he from NoFuck and the yellow weapon)have had ongoing bets around football, him being a crunchers supporter,it got to the stage of him owing me a lobster dinner, tonight I called it in :D I had the one on the far right

Baby octopus for starters, nice n spicy with fried bread.

Then the main course, different I'll give you that.Tasted nice but not something I'd get if I was paying, don't see the attraction for the price.

And just to show i have manners,a glass of the restaurants finest-Cheers Jo,your a good mate:pirate

Just polish off the wine I bought and that's Anzio done.
Not to bad in the saddle tomorrow, around 5 hours(not doing tolls tomorrow)with a couple of stops.

Thanks for the virtual tour mate, it looks a nice place to visit. We’ve toured Italy fairly extensively through the years, en route to Greece mainly, but have had a couple of month long trips through Italy itself hitting the tourist traps up the northern end as well as just wandering in the south, which is completely different. Maybe we should take a leaf out of your book and stay somewhere for longer, and really get the feel of the place? Well done, especially in this heat!

Well the 5 day stop at Pietrafitta has turned out shite. The only bar/pizza is shut for the week, the lake i was planning on swimming in is actually an old quarry that you can't gain access to,and theres only so many villages you can explore on a mountain.Still very hot and with no air con I've called it a day and will swallow the cost.

One horse town :D

Had a ride round the country side, stopped for a coffee in what is an identical village to the last 10 ive just ridden through.

Except this village has a "bikers bar",that was shut.

So tomorrow it's off to San Marino and what promises to be a lot cooler few days.

That’s a pain… Hopefully San Marino and less heat will improve the trip.
