MOT query my 1200 gs is booked in for its first one this sat,
Now I have vision x front led fog's fitted which come on all the time regardless of headlight setting,
Do I need to turn them off for the mot?
And if so with them not working will that then cause me a problem ie lights fitted but not working,

I probably will fit a switch for next year btw..

My MOT tester always turns the fogs off on my GSA when testing as their beam pattern affects his testing of the main/dip pattern

Have they got any covers you could fit?

just disconnect them they are not obligatory lamps so will not be tested, however a non obligatory lamp that interfers with an obligatory one ie beam pattern may fail depending on tester(i know it should be consistent standards but it isnt).

I have tested a few bikes with the spot lights on and it has never affected the beam patten test

All fitted lights must be working or the test will fail. Fit lens covers, take them off or fit a switch.

I took the fuse out of mine for the MOT test and the guy never mentioned them. I asked him if it would have affected the test if I had left them on and he had no idea.

I recently fitted a £2 switch from Maplin cable-tied next to the under-seat socket and it works fine. I placed it inside a finger cut off a washing up glove to keep the water out.

sorry you are wrong there.

Do you have a source for that?

My MOT tester who showed me the item on the VOSA website (they now use to fill in the details). It's up to him if he ticks the box, but it clearly said lights fitted and working. It did not define anything about original or accessory.

He would/could also fail a bike with badly aimed auxiliary lights that could dazzle. Though he would pass the lights if I could realign them.

Also check out the huge list of PASS/FAIL items for the number plate - clearly a seriously dangerous piece of equipment if not 100% to spec.

the key word here is obligatory, only lamps that are required by law sould be tested afaik

I recently mot'd my 2010 Adv and I asked if the BMW headlamp protector needed to be removed....he replyed if it upsets the beam pattern just take it off....it passed with the protector in place :D
