Moto Martin

So I finally got a start on this. I know it been over a year but it's a long story. I bought a new battery and connected it up but everything was dead. The wiring was the chief suspect for obvious reasons.

I phoned an old mate 3shay who knows a bit about electrics and bypassed the mess to see if we could get the engine cranking over but no joy. So starter out which meant carbs off. The starter is seized and the carbs are heading for an ultrasonic bath. A new shock was purchased. Next objective is getting it running and see what it sounds like. The previous owner reckons there's a big bore kit in it. When I replaced the plugs I had a look into the barrels and the pistons look new .
I'm starting to think that an m-unit might be the way to go as regards the electrics as there looks to be a lot of splicing with the katana switch gear and other bits and pieces.

Meanwhile this showed up,
Bimota SB6, so more hardship awaits.

I’d get the motor out of the Martin and have it vapour blasted hen given a fresh lick of paint. Ditch the CV carbs for a set of flat or round slides. A nice Harris stubby exhaust and she’ll be looking awesome.

What's the advantage of the slides over the CV 's?

Add in the fact that as they get older the diaphragms in CV carbs cause problems all of which makes flat slides a better option if you can get a set in there and jetted correctly.

New set ordered from sps.

The seized starter. Will have it back tomorrow and the new flat slides should be here by the weekend.
On the electrical side of things I'm going to put an M-unit in it and that should give some reliability. The original wiring is 40yrs old.

Each to there own,
But why would you want to crank over a motor that’s been sat for years,
Take a few covers off,and make sure it’s not rusted inside,
Put a borescope down the plug holes
Carry on😀
Ah Mikey, I've been turning it over for months via the gearbox output shaft. I've had a look at the pistons and they are new, from what I could see of the barrels they look good but I plopped some oil in there months ago and to be honest I'm prepared to take whatever comes regarding the motor.
Bf

Waits patiently……..

Look, throw in the carbs and I can go to £1750….

Be careful with the older gsx1100 starters I have had two fail in recent years when the magnets parted company from the outer casings
