Had an issue with the battery on my 2008 GSA 1220 Adventurer.
I was going over to Ireland two weekends ago. I went to take the bike out 2 days prior to going. Battery was dead. I put it on charge over night till the Thursday morning. Tried it again & it still would not start. To cut long story !
Spoke to Peter at Motorad & told him about my problem. I asked the question if they could give me a battery, to get me going for the weekend. We agreed between the two of us that it would be OK to bring the old battery up & exchange it as it was still not 6 months old.I sent a third party up with the faulty battery on the Friday morning, only to be told that they would need to see the bike & check the battery as fitted. I told them that I was catching the ferry to Ireland on the Saturday morning & it was impossible for me to get the bike to them that day. To summarise ! I was forced to purchase a new battery at £80.00. Then arrange for the bike to come into them for the old battery to be re-fitted & checked. It went in on Saturday past to have the checks carried out. I possibily was wrong to give them the old battery in a fully charged condition. After hanging about for 2 hrs. The report came back from the workshop that the battery was absolutely fine. The bike has got 5500 miles on it from May 2008. So it can hardly be classed as rarely used! The longest the bike lies dormant is in the average of 5 days!
My gripe is I spent nearly £13K on a new bike. Then they stuff me for £80.00.
In short I won't give them another penny. Looks like I will need to make the trek through to Dundee for the 6000 mile service?

The sales guys are brand new. However the dealer principle, as he likes to be known as leaves a lot to be desired. As I said they have had their last sheckle out of my pocket.

I'm not following you.................:nenau

Was the OE battery fine or not, then?

Are you now the owner of two "good" batteries, because they wouldn't take the second battery back?

Al

(Oh - welcome to the forum...........)

This doesn't sound like the Motorrad Central I know. They have given me absolutely superb service and always been most helpful. Did they offer to take the new battery back as it was almost a loan battery by your note!!

Oh and as Al says welcome to the site.

Andy, I'm now the owner of two batteries. They said they would take back the new battery, if they could find fault with the OE battery. In hind sight!! I probably shouldn't have charged the OE battery prior to taking it in for checking.

Point is, yer man Mike ! Admitted that there is a problem with some OE batteries. Then told me the BMW are becoming sticky about replacing them under warranty. My main point was! If someone spends nearly £13K on a new bike plus all the servicing for two years. A wise business decision should be made for the sake of £80.00. I don't believe in slagging people off on a public forum. As I said the rest of the staff are friendly & helpful. I have no problem in that department.

Regards Allan

So, as I read it, your battery went flat. You charged it and now it starts your bike. In the mean time someone else went into a dealer where you expected them to just give you another battery. The result is that now you have 2 working batteries.

And for an extra £80 over your original budget you had, what I guess was, an excellent time in Ireland where you *may* have had to cancel.

Is this the legendary Scotish stinginess they talk of :augie

Dear Slowdown,
Yes ! I now have two battries. Secondly I don't trust the original OE battery because it failed in the first place. I'm of the opinion that the OE battery has a faulty cell. Yes, I got to Ireland. You probably don't know where Ireland is without the help of a map ! North West of the M25 !! With regards to your comment about so called Scot's stinginess. I have been in the company of many a Southerner. It always strikes me as strange when the next round of drinks are required! Their bladder requires relieving !!

Get it in yer Gub !!

But that would leave you with no battery? :nenau

I could understand them saying - "pay us for this new battery just now, and either of the following will apply:"

1) "Your OE battery is faulty, and we'll refund you the £80."

2) "Your OE battery is good, and we'll take back the new one and refund the £80"

Are you sure you didn't just bamboozle them? Maybe they didn't understand either? :nenau

But sounds like the motorrad cen that i know !
I never even got a return phone call, after all the crap i had from the service adviser, in dalkieth.
ie parts replaced under warranty, no charge, then 10/12 weeks later a phone call from the same service adviser asking for a payment of £200.
l wont buy any bike or bits from cen again!

They do a lovely hamburger though. Oh and keep the battery, you'll need it eventually.

Like yourself had a similar problem with the OE battery when the bike was in warranty and it was recovered to MCW after BMW Assist told me the battery was gubbed. After a week I got the bike back and it seemed OK, of course a few weeks later and out of warranty i had to jump the damn thing to get it started. Never mind, take it to Dundee for a service and get them to check it out thinking this could be expensive 'cause the bike has got a new battery in it.
Wrong, it is the original battery that is now completely fecked and hadn't been changed by MCW.

Like yourself not one to come on to public forums for the sake of a rant but it would appear standards are slipping and it is not the place that many people on here are used to having good service from.

Motorrad Central West

Got a telephone call from one the Director's of MCW. Full refund for the battery! Faith restored. Respect where it's due. Many thanks.

Oh & the phrase "Get it in yer Gub". Was in response to Mrs Slowdown's ignorance! Was having a real bad !
