Motorcycle boot advice

It's another vote for ordering the Altbergs and making do in the meantime from here I'm afraid - this post from Oor Jim pretty much sold them for me.

20 years old, in almost daily use over the course of hundreds of thousands of miles and still going strong. That'll do me.

Totally agree best boots I've ever had for riding in comfy and 100% waterproof.

Hello S
thanks for great info about shoes.. i also seen lova is the better quality then altberg at silverman shop in london..only thing is missing in lova's boot is the ankle support. rest lova is the better boot..for walking and ridding.
i like two boot in lova one is the LOWA Combat Boot GORE-TEX high boot, 2nd LOWA Mountain Boot Brown GORE-TEX.. which one you like to ride and walk...

From what i have seen combat boots offer slightly less support around the ankle as they must allow the wearer to kneel. This is balanced out by the fact they tend to go slightly higher up the leg so as to compensate. If you are pressed for time they will break in quicker. I also chose mine because they had a wide fitting version that were comfy on and i could wear even when i had a broken toe. In terms of protection i think the mountain boots are slightly thicker in sole and upper. Also, depending on your walking plans, the mountain boots may take crampons better than the combat boots (still talking C1's)

All that said, in a motorcycle off both will offer similar levels of protection. I've seen people come off in shorts and tees and others in full Rukka suits (though like the white helmets sales statistic, the Rukka wearers seem to have less offs) and it remains my personal belief there's only so much good gear selection can bend the odds, the rest is just luck.

Safe travels,

S

This can't be that hard, surely? I opted for Daytona boots that were longer and more protected in the shin area. (after my caterpillars got old). They had longer padding in the shin area. If you ride a boxer, you will catch your shin on the cylinders...

finally got altberg microlite very happy - thanks for advice and help
