Just as an aside, recently drove to Lleida Spain and back with several friends making the same journey. Their journey time was 13.5 hours @ 70-75mph on the autoroutes…toll costs were approximately €100 each way.
Having more time I chose the N and D routes, travel time was 17.5 hours over two days. I saw more, saved circa €200 tolls and spent €50 x 2 on a very decent hotel (Black & Green, Limoges). Travelling at the lower speeds I used less fuel too.

If one was to have a strong desire to see and ride in Sardinia or Corsica, whilst only having got a maximum 10 days to do so, then bombing from Calais to South of France in Autoroute in a couple of days might be the only reasonable option. As it be pointless to taking 4 days to rock up to the port, pay the ferry fees and stay the night on the island. Then repeat it all again on the way back.
+1 We've always avoided the péage when travelling down to Chinon from the Channel ports - it's longer but you get to see a bit more of France and can stop off and sight see etc. However t'other week I got off the Caen ferry (on the bike) and it was 22:00 by the time I cleared the immigration booth etc. Jumped on the peage with a shiny new Fulli tag in my sleeve pocket and knocked around 2hrs off the journey. Yes it cost but the time saving was significant (and there's not a lot to see in France at night). The Fulli tag worked perfectly and correctly billed as a class 5 at all gares de péage.

10 hour 24 minutes, Via Paris 1059km (658 miles) Toll
10 hours 41 minutes, Via Reims 1085km (674 miles) Toll
15 hours 5 minutes, Via Orleans 1184km (736 miles) No Toll but still via Autoroute and National (N) Routes.

The point of the bipper thing is not so much the relative time saving / or some ongoing ‘cost benefit’ analysis but rather the simple pleasure and convenience of having a blipper….. if you chose to use a motorway at all.
Got some time to spare and fancy the non-motorway roads? Take them.
Want to use motorways? Take them….. and (maybe, if you fancy one) use a blipper.

I got a Ulys Classic last year - beware that if you do not use it for 14 months they charge you a €10 non-use charge!

Thought of "losing" it to save €10 then got real. I'm off to Italy (Sardinia) soon and thought to use it there, but no tolls!
I bet they did only you did not read the T&C before ticking a box
APRR/Mango/Fulli/newnamemustbedue allow 2 years as I got charged in 2021 due to no trips during Covid

Ye, they do. It's not even in the small print, but is stated relatively visible on the signup alongside the costs.
BTW, I did receive my replacement Ulys tag earlier in August, and used it quite a lot this month between Italy and France (currently covered almost 9000km with a car that had 20 miles on it when I got it in July... but I digress...).
I opened the old, non working, tag.
Seems the battery was off (after two years, should last at least 4) but it's simple construction and should be easy to replace:
Funnily enough the black Ulys tags (the ones that work in all countries) are based on the Italian Telepass hardware. See "AutostradeTech" etching on the board.
The tags normally beep once or twice while you go through the gates (twice for sure in Italy) and the beep sound will change if the battery is on its way out.

Although everything else is free..
Do they mean this is charged monthly regardless if you have travelled ..

no, you will only be charged for the months when you use the tag in whichever country
The only exception is if you don’t use the tag at all for 24 months then you will get a 10 euro charge (or maybe £10 in uk?)

Yes you can
for France and Italy there’s nothing to do, just take the tag
for Spain and Portugal you need to link the reg plate with the tag in your account on the web site, takes 2 minutes to change the reg if you take a different vehicle
the toll booths automatically identify the vehicle type if you use it in your car and on your bike
just avoid the lanes with a no bikes symbol above them in France as you’ll get charged as a car
