Motorway ‘blipper’ / smart tags - For ALL news, advice, how to get one and what’s best, irrespective of the country

My Fuli tag worked at all but one barrier on the way down to Sids

Opened the barrier and then set off an alarm + i was charged as a car

pinged them a mail, and about a month later, i got an adjustment to the payment

I may move the tag to a more prominent location for the next trip

Not for UK registered vehicles though, so You still need the transponder.
Failure to pay fines are quite heavy

What sort of range do these blippers have please?
For example if I was on a wander around the Calais area would it still work from East London?
Asking for a friend. :D

Maybe if he can phone his significant other at home and ask them (indefinite pronoun) to wave it out of the window as he arrives at the barrier :nenau

Lol, by the way coworker of mine went on a vacation to Italy, gave him one of my blippers (I have two). He called me from France: "blipper doesn't work".

He did all the checks and it's the battery, and this is the second blipper that stops working within a couple of years from receiving. They should have a battery life of 5-ish years. The ones I used in Italy lasted even longer.

I'm with Ulys, I think they sent out a few bad batches.
Last time it happened was last summer, I was in the car alone and the bad blipper was a major pain in the ass - literally.
I wish there would be a way to "wake them up" and check if they do beep (when battery is low they do a different beep) but after looking online couldn't find much.
 
Nice, but based on the way the tags work I suspect the battery data is communicated from the tag to the network/system each time you go through the gates.

So (if true) this is ok if you use it often, less useful in our case where the tag can sit unused for a year or so, ‘cause the battery status can change without it being communicated back.
 
I think it is done more on time. In other words, “You have had this blipper X years. Time to order a replacement”. I did just that when mine was shown to be getting on a bit. I posted back the old blipper and received a new one in a couple of days.

There again, that could be bollocks, as regards time.

To be fair this has never been a big issue when I was using Telepass in Italy. I honestly think Ulys sent me two bogus units (I ordered them a few months apart), because to have two batteries failures like that is very unlikely.

It’s just my nerdy mind thinking “what if I find the right frequency to wake it up and chexk before I travel”. :D

Generally, if the battery is low, they should make a “sad” beep tone when you go through the gates and the tag is woken up on entrance.
 
I just logged into my APRR/Fulli account to check I have the correct bike registered as going to France on Friday and will take the A26 to Cambrai. I also looked to see any info about the battery status but nothing mentioned.
This note appears at the top of the screen:

"If your badge is not detected correctly on the free-flow sections, we may use your license plate to link the trip to your account."

So, make sure you have the correct vehicle associated with your tag as the above will be handy if your battery packs up mid trip.
 
Nah, if the tag doesn't work, the gate doesn't open. You can manually scan the barcode on the badge, at the gate. Or ring them.
Trust me, I've been through this last summer. Initially I didn't understand what was going on, so I tried getting in and out of the motorway to try it. I also stopped at some point and spoke with the dude at the toll, we waved it by hand close to the receiver and they saw it on the computer, but somehow wouldn't work otherwise. There is no service (at least for Ulys) along the motorway. I was pretty pissed off.

Ordered a new one when I got to Italy, all good, as I did a crapload of miles up and down Italian and French motorways that summer.

I’ve used Emovis tags in cars in France. Faultless in my experience.

I got a Fulli one for my trip to France + Spain, and that worked fine too. Mine was stuck in the side pocket of my tank bag. One peage ticket booth it didn’t beep and open the barrier - when I looked around, the machine was holding out a ticket for me. I don’t know if there was a failure with the tag or the machine or the lane i was in (it did have the T lit up but was the rightmost lane). All the other times if you stopped or crawled up to the ticket machine, the tag beeped and the barrier raised. My motorcycle has been correctly identified as such in the bills in France - turns out I didn’t use a toll section in Spain so no experience there.
 
Had the same at one Toll Booth in France with Fulli Tag machine offered a Ticket so I just took it and was charged at the end of the Mth on my Bank Card, otherwise never had a problem.

Did you have any billing issues with fulli? Were they able to debit you correctly?

Was the tag beeping at the gate (despite it being cancelled)?


Generally, if the tag fails, the barcode on it can be scanned at the gate and one can still go through (in Italy you can just go through, they’ll take a pic of the plate and, if you have a contract, bill you - but I don’t advice this on French telepeage contracts).
Your tags were cancelled, so not an option for you…


I’ve had issues with one of my tags last year (dead battery) and the support, as I lamented in another thread, is dreadful… and in French only.

I made note of that and take precautions now. :)

I’m currently in Italy, by car. Using the tags (as I’ve always done since they were available) saved me about one hour queue at the barrier at Rosignano (end of motorway on Tuscany).

If you travel to Europe regularly or semi-regularly they are worth much more than their weight in gold.

Take this from someone that grew up in a tolled motorway country and was (happily) part of the early trials when they finally enabled tags for motorbikes back in ~2004.

The only billing I received was for the tags them self when placing an order. No further bill were issues. The app refuses to log me in (wrong password apparently) yet on the website it is correct.

I think I will ditch it as Martin has suggested it. Seeing as I am still waiting for a reply to my enquiry from over two days ago.
