Mounting a Zumo660 on a R1200GS

I know all this is speculation, but maybe someone know for sure.

I was thinking of getting a proper bike GPS, and the Zumo 660 appears to cost approx £350 when it is released, this is significantly less than a 550 (at £390)? It says that it includes mounting for a bike (this could be a euphamism for a rubber sucker mount for the windscreen). Do I need to invest some more hard earned and buy a TT or NippyN GPS mounting bracket aswell (this could get expensive).

I am intending on using this on my 2007 R1200GS.

What sort of mounting does the Zumo 550 come with? And what will happen to the price (should we expect it to drop <£250).

Zumo 550 comes with a mount for the car and a seperate mount for the bike so presume the 660 will be the same when its launched.
Both mounts work fine so no need for a TT or NN mount though you will need to buy the Garmin mount lock which is about £13 on Fleabay otherwise anyone can swipe the mount from the bike.

To add more confusion you think of zumo 550 or nuvi 550 or as you mention the zumo 660 which shall be in Q2 (end of April/ early May .. so I'm told)

Zumo 550 and Zumo 660 have a mount in the box and its a RAM-B-178-A (three parts are used, RAM-B-309-7 + RAM-B-201-A + RAM-B-347).

On nuvi 550 the mount is an optional acessory although www.gpsw.co.uk have done a biker bundle.

Depending upon where you fit on the 12GS, I would go LHS of clock and use RAM-B-231Z (1" u-bolt and shim) instead of RAM-B-309-7 from the mount in the box, onto oval rail. Other's may suggest their personal choices, but my reply is based upon what you get at time of purchase.

As to price, AFAIK, its unlikely zumo 550 shall hit your wishful price point unless you start looking at 2nd hand sales or aim at a nuvi 550, but then you need to add mount + cradle + power lead.

I suggest you read the question again ... its confuses two models, Zumo 550 and Zumo 660, that said, they both shall use the same mount (RAM-B-178-A) as I answered, the only difference is the cradle, which as yet zumo 660 cradle is a mystery, if you've looked at the pics posted on the zumo 660 on this forum, one thing you may have worked out is, zumo 550 cradle will not fit zumo 660.

depends where you fit. Its same kit, but I would opt and use RAM-B-231Z u-bolt mount (comes with 1" , 1.25" + RAP-319 shim) so fits 25mm , 28mm handlebars or onto LHS of clocks on oval rail.

erm why would Garmin package the 660 with a BMW specific lead , maybe it'll come with leads for every bike produced, box may be abit big though

its bare wire ends (just like 2610 power lead) into a moulded splitter with headphone audio jack (3.5mm) bare wire with inline fuse, mic jack (2.5mm) and mini-usb
