Mounting Autocom in fusebox

I've been mulling over the best place to mount my Autocom (a Super Pro AVI) on my 1150.

It won't fit under the seat, unless I have the seat on the high setting all the time, and the space on top of the air filter is already taken. I might be able to put it on top of the battery, but that's difficult to reach and also very close to the alternator, and the coils, so might be prone to interference.

It's possible to rearrange the relays in the fusebox, and create a neat corner for the intercom, but it'll need minor surgery to cut out a divider - bottom left in the attached picture.

It strikes me that this must be a great place to fit the intercom - it's in a box along with the rest of the electrics, so it should stay clean and dry, and it won't be difficult to get to the power either.

The thing is, not many people seem to have done this - am I missing something blindingly obvious, or is it time to get the hacksaw out?

I have my Autocom fitted in the same place, it's a perfect fit just cut part of it away for the cables

If you have a Dremel, it's excellent at removing enough plastic for the cables to pass.

I think my Autocom must be a bit bigger than yours - I needed to put it in the slot bottom left which meant cutting out a divider. It's not structural, so that's not a problem.

The previous owner had already put in a hole and a grommet, also bottom left. I've router the music and GPS leads through there. I've routed the headset cables through the main grommet on the left of the bike. The grommet had a couple of plugs in it that were just the right size for the cables, so it's all looking neat and lovely.

I'd love to solder onto the bottom of the spade connector for the fuse, but to do that I'm going to have to remove it from the carrier. It's refusing to budge, even with the white locating pin removed and using a variety of probes to try and unclip it. That'll be a job for tomorrow when there's a bit more light.

Looks like more work than is needed to me when any of our comms can be fitted under the tank by the side of the battery and as far as I am aware they never effect the height of the seat.....well from the 100's ive fitted so far.
