Hi,

My son has just purchased a new PC. I know how to transfer files from his old laptop to new PC i.e. his large collection of MP3's :augie , however I'm not sure hoe to move music etc. purchased from iTunes. Anybody done this before?

Also, he has an iPhone. How does this (registration/) get moved to his new PC?

Thanks

If all the music is on an ipod or iphone you can simply authorise the new PC then do one of the following:

If the iPod or iPhone is synced with another computer, or is an iPod shuffle: Click Transfer Purchases in the dialog that appears.

If the iPod or iPhone is set up to manually manage items: Wait for the device to appear in the iTunes window (below Devices), and then choose File > Transfer Purchases From iPod (or iPhone).

I could not get all my library on my ipod and there is music on itunes that I did not purchase from istore. I could not connect the two computers so I backed up my library to disks and restored the files on the new itunes setup.

Choose File > Library > “Back up to Disc.

Put the disk in the new PC

A dialog appears, asking if you want to restore. To replace files in your iTunes library with files from the disc, select “Overwrite existing files.”

Click Restore and follow the onscreen prompts.

Remember to de-register the old machine and register the new machine.

If you have used up your five registrations you can cancel them all once every 12 months and re-register the PCs you require.

If you need help email the help line on itunes and you get a chatty reply from a nice lady who talks you through the process.

I have uese a software called ipod to computer, which is easy to use, easy to download and install. It can help you to transfer songs ,videos, etc to from ipod to pc,ipod to itunes etc.
