Thanks for all the advice here over the past 2½ years, but after 20,000 very happy miles on a totally reliable GS, I am moving on. I came to the GS from a VFR and have been tempted by another V4, which arrived on Friday and is absolutely superb, I love it.

Honda has built a cracking bike, well worth the wait!

no need to go cos you've sold the GS.... plenty on don't have them!

Defo hang around and let us know how you get on with your new bike. Congratulations - enjoy :beerjug:

Shame that seamless V4 turbine is wasted on British roads!

I get a feeling you'll be back on a twin pot tractor once the gloss wears off!

Thanks, folks, interesting comments.

405 miles in, I love it! Having had V4 Hondas before, I really wanted this bike when I bought the GS 2½ years ago, but also it was no more than a concept then, Honda weren’t actually building it. Now it exists, I test rode it, the Triumph Explorer and the twin cam boxer. The 1200 V4 is a simply stunning engine, so smooth and powerful (although as bod says, it’s probably got more than enough power for UK roads). All in all, the riding position is subtly different to the GS (slightly higher pegs, slightly narrower bars) but you can see where Honda was aiming the bike. As someone whose idea of “off road” is parking in the field at Oliver’s Mount top watch racing this past weekend, it suits me fine, thank you. And the indicators don’t turn themselves off half way round a roundabout………..

The high screen is not great, the airflow from it just about knocks my head off, so the ordinary screen has gone back on – but there’s a small change to the mounts which apparently makes the bigger screen work OK without the buffeting, so that’s a job for later in the week.

Horses for courses - I wouldn't touch anything that wasn't a twin these days - 4 cylinders have no soul

Hope you enjoy it. I did take one for a test ride before going for a GS last month. It was very "does exactly what it says on the tin" Honda smooooth. I can understand the appeal. No shaft clunk!

TBH the main turn off for me was the high bars /riding position - but that is a very personal choice, rather than a "fault" with the bike.

Nice bike, i also like the VFR1200 sports tourer and like you enjoy honda's V4, i still miss my vtec but also enjoy my GS if i could only afford two :D

Hiya Ian
I could be tempted, but I think I'll wait a little longer to see how prices hold up and a demo might be available before I take a test ride

Hi Ian

Enjoy the new bike and keep posting pictures of your travels.
Steve (Sven) also moved on this year from GS to RT, bumped into him at the Sunderland Airshow on Saturday.

As you know many ex VFR owners from the BO VFR forum have moved into the BMW camp and very few seem to have gone back to Honda over the past few years. Perhaps Honda have eventually made a bike that will tempt some people back.
Will be interested in your thoughts after a few months ownership.

Hopefully bump into you at the Manx again at some point.

Mick
