I've opted to move from my 1250 GSA to the 1300 GSA courtesy of a half decent deal from BMW.

Collect the new bike on Monday.

Enjoyed your comradery on here fellow 1250 riders and see some of you perhaps on the other side with the 1300 gang..

Cheers

Spec, colour etc, etc ?

Trophy colours, everything apart from the auto gearbox & Li Ion battery it seems.

Gold Wheels was a must have along with the suspension drop thing, radar, tall leccy screen, top box and Akra'.. It's even got an alarm which I am not that pleased about, so will get the optimate flying lead on quick.. Oh & grip puppies as both are a must have.

Nice one!
I'll probably follow at some point, but maybe not for a couple of years. I'll go TB. Won't bother with the radar, but I'll go for the forged wheels.

I have the alarm, it's never caused me a problem.

You are still allowed to visit and comment on the 1250 section.

You can still visit and meet your 1250 friends and i am sure they will welcome you if you turn up on your 1300

Isn't it nice that we can play with the spec'.

I've always avoided alarms, so fingers crossed. It's a chuck of cash, but there's no pockets in coffins..

I was absolutely gobsmacked at the improvements in wind protection (love the leccy screen) and handling - it's really quite different, but i loved my 1250s & they are bloody brilliant bikes.

I hope the 13 is as awesome long term - I think it will be..

New bike day Monday so you can expect some gloating pics...

Alarms don’t usually drain the battery, trackers do. I’ve had many BMWs with the OEM alarm fitted, never had drain issues

Did you go for the standard bars or the higher ones?
For me, with the standard bars on the 13 it didn't fit right. I'll need to ride one again with those changed. For me, as it was it wasn't enough to throw £10k into changing a 1 year old 1250, as it was at the time.

Standard - They did half offer to put the gold ones on to match the wheels, but I forgot to follow up on that - thx for the reminder!!

Good to hear. I had a tracker on my 2020 GS & that was a right pain. Totally pointless and I removed it totally from the bike in the end - Datatool were absolutely shocking too.

Was tempted until I had a loan bike while my 1250 was having it's 12k service. First thing I didn't like was you sit on it not in it, the motor sounded like a bag of bolts and the transmission wine was terrible. I took it back after only a few miles, telling them the answer I got was "they're all like that sir"! This bike only had 1400 ish miles on it.

Yes it's lower in standard trim than a 1250 and it had the auto lowering suspension. But was it better than my 1250 to warrant the trade in cost....... Not in my opinion.

I know of a few who have jumped, now wished the hadn't. Hopefully it will all work for you 🤞

Mission Abandoned.....

Well postponed for the time being as the initial insurance quotes I got were in line with my current 1250 GSA figures, but when I got an actual registration and went through the process again it more than doubled. Oh and the fixed excess went up 4 fold. Feck that at my age.

So I canned the idea for the time being as there is clearly additional risk associated to the new bike that I'm not aware of. I'm not going to unnecessarily line the pockets of the insurance merchants, so will see how the figures look at my renewal in April and then potentially again when my bike hits 3 late 2026.

Ah well, I don't blame you. As you say, the 1250 GSA is a great bike anyway.

Any bike north of 20k they load up your insurance and your excess substantially. As soon as you drop below 19k it drops by the same. Had the same issue when I brought my 1250 couple years ago. The price of new bikes and what it's costing to insure them is slowly killing things. Is it any wonder bike sales are down!

Well in the recent past I have insured my new 1250 GSA in 2023 and in 2022 a Ducati SF4VS & both of those were north of £20k.

The hike in premium & excess far outweighs the slight change in new bike price over previous. Something is making this higher risk - or- insurance companies are just taking the pi55.. Neither of which I can be ar5ed to entertain at the moment seeing as I wasn't actually looing to change now - just a deal happened in front of me.

The joys of the rip off insurance industry. This year Bennetts almost doubled my policy. They wanted almost £300 to keep my 350 Piaggio scooter on my multi bike policy. That was more then my 23 1250 GSA cost!

The scoot is a 2012 and nothing else had changed from the previous year. Work that out.
