This is only my humble opinion but here goes.

I have recently bought a 1200s Multistrada to sit alongside my 1200gs and have found that even as good as the Multi is it is still miles behind the GS , why you ask ---
Reason one : Multi fantastic handling and power/ Gs great power again fantastic handling but the GS two up is such a better bike as it provides more space smoothness against the fereoceous Ducatti which is crampted two up.
Reason two : The GS is a proper touring bike / the multi fantastic short touring one up only.
Reason three : The GS is better looking as its so ugly :thumb
The multi is like an Italian smoothy :P

Again only my opinion.

If i had to sell one --- the GS would stay..........

that is more or less why i didn't buy a Monkey Spanker last year, and bought another GSA instead :)

Interesting that you don't rate the Mutli as a 2-up tourer as I have two friends who think (and their pillions agree) exactly the opposite. Both have had their Mutlies since 2010 and both have put on some serious long distance miles. I can't comment personally as I ride mine 1-up only but I find it every bit as comfortable as my former 1200.

They are both similar but the Multi is the hooligan side with style and the gs is pipe and slippers .

Plus with 146 bhp at the rear wheel explains itself :)

I wanted real hooligan so i went for an S1000RR to compliment my GS - 191bhp gives me the real deal

So - not so good two up................

What are your thoughts about 1-up with luggage?

I'm looking for options for changing the GSA next year - and thought about the Multi.

Put it this way - the wife has done well over 30,000 miles on the back of the Gs and loves it - she did one mile on the Multi and refused to go on the back again and got off as she thinks its to small and too crampted.

The reason i bought the Multi is for that alone , one up with or without luggage for the unashamed one up trips with like mined rapid riders as i am sure this bike will and does excel.:D

Fantastic , but cant ride crotch rockets as damaged neck bones when racing and cant get into the crouch position anymore - pity as i can imagine the RR is awesome on big roads . The Multi gives the ability to hunt sportsbikes on the A & B roads ----- Fun fun fun, as they struggle with the corners :D

A mate of mine had a GS and K1300S. He chopped in the GS for a Multi but reckons the Multi is closer to the K rather than the GS. i.e. the Multi is a sports bike on stilts. His pillion (wife) bemoans the loss of the GS and would rather tour on the K than the Multi....He is now chopping in the K for a tourer as the Multi is just not relaxing over distance.

On my part...no clue other than the short test ride on a Multi...awesome but for us one bike folk would not be a replacement for my GSA as just too focussed.

Cheers

Have you tried one ? It may suprise you

Congrats on having two of the best bikes money can buy!

Almost all of my previous bikes were sports/super sports but I wanted an all rounder. I tested a Multistrada a few weeks ago and was blown away, bloody brilliant piece of kit but so expensive if you choose the S or S Tourer, over 15K new, I couldn't stretch that far, If I could, I would have bought one, even second hand you are looking at the best part of 12K for an S. So back up plan, try a GS. Took the wife along too and we both loved it. Just bought a very low mileage 2010 (twin cam) for £8K, with ESA, traction, ABS, full luggage, etc. Couldn't be happier.

I think that GS owners should try the multi, fabulous engine, great dash and super looking!

Enjoy and ride safely!

Multistrada

This is an interesting thread for me, as I have a bit of a dilemma.

I have a Fireblade which I've had for getting on for 12 years and which is a keeper. Mrs Blackblade & I have toured on it, but having to use throwover panniers with a limited capacity & success. Four years ago enter the 1200GS, bought after a decent test ride (solo & 2 up). Whilst I find it great one up, I also find the power a bit lacking for fast overtakes 2 up with all the luggage. Decat headers sorted this a little, but Mrs B now informs me she's never been too happy with the pillion position, as she can't see over me due to the upright riding position. Also when getting on & off the throttle, she doesn't care for the pitching back & forth.

So, I'm now contemplating a change - and did wonder about the Multistrada, but £15k for a new one before accessories/top box etc :eek

Are you sure ? I would have said one of the big pluses of a GS is two up riding.

Think you need to be a bit gentler with the throttle :aidan

I think you are going to struggle to find a better pillion seat than the GS to be honest, but the K1300S has a good pillion seat and has ESA, Traction, etc & is cheaper than the Multi, more power too! Wouldn't hurt to try the Multi with Mrs B but earlier in the thread, Stick pointed out that it is more cramped than the GS!

Didn't post for a riding lesson, but thanks for the tip - I'll bear it in mind :augie

Have thought about the K13S. I like the idea of the power (I've ridden a K13GT) but it's probably too similar to the Blade to have both (except for the hard luggage potential), and I don't want to get rid of the Blade. Back to the Multi, pillion space may not be an issue, as we are reasonably OK 2 up on the Blade. I think you're right, we definitely need a test ride. I'm really hesitant though, because I have an idea how much the GS is worth, and if I like the Multi, the cost to change will really make me have to grovel. :blagblah:blagblah

I thought about the Multi, before my latest purchase. I saw a 61 plate at a dealer, and there was some corrosion already. I had a look on the forums, and I was concerned at the reports of corrosion, so for that reason was put off. I know those are probably rare cases, and if the bike is looked after, there won't be issues, but it still put me off.:rob

So, what else to look at? As I love the GS, I wanted something with a similar riding position but lighter and more torquey. I found this bike after looking for months, and as it is a lighter more powerful GS, with the same upright riding position, I am over the moon. It took a few months of searching, but was so so worth it.:JB

I give you............

Met a lad in the ferry queue last week His multi had simply tipped off the sidestand and it was a bit of an expensive looking mess to sort out!
Whereas the gsa can be dropped (with panniers) onto its side and you just pick it up and are good to go mibbies worth taking into consideration.
ps damhik about this:augie and me pan euro st 1300 does not break either wi a wee drop :augie
