Multistrada 1200 v's R1200 gs

Nice one

I thought about the Multi, before my latest purchase. I saw a 61 plate at a dealer, and there was some corrosion already. I had a look on the forums, and I was concerned at the reports of corrosion, so for that reason was put off. I know those are probably rare cases, and if the bike is looked after, there won't be issues, but it still put me off.:rob

So, what else to look at? As I love the GS, I wanted something with a similar riding position but lighter and more torquey. I found this bike after looking for months, and as it is a lighter more powerful GS, with the same upright riding position, I am over the moon. It took a few months of searching, but was so so worth it.:JB

I give you............

You lucky bas---d ---------------------nice one :thumb

Didn't post for a riding lesson, but thanks for the tip - I'll bear it in mind :augie

Have thought about the K13S. I like the idea of the power (I've ridden a K13GT) but it's probably too similar to the Blade to have both (except for the hard luggage potential), and I don't want to get rid of the Blade. Back to the Multi, pillion space may not be an issue, as we are reasonably OK 2 up on the Blade. I think you're right, we definitely need a test ride. I'm really hesitant though, because I have an idea how much the GS is worth, and if I like the Multi, the cost to change will really make me have to grovel. :blagblah:blagblah

I almost pulled the trigger on an S with full luggage (inc. top box) with 3500 miles on the clock for £11,400, still had over a year's warranty so if you look you will find (I sounded like Yoda there!!!) :blagblah

Totally agree with OP.

Tried one as my first delve into life after years of Jap rocketships, and it was not all that much slower.

Nothing like the GS, much faster and I reckon more likely to get me locked up than a Superbike :blast

Did not think too much of the two-up ability either, OK better than any Superbike, but not as roomy as GS / Tenere / Stelvio.

First bike on my Lotto List, regardless of cash available to buy a helicopter and hire a pilot for those "licence at her majesty's pleasure" moments I just can't be bothered to squeeze onto a superbike anymore.

Of course it will rust, it is a Ducati, it needs TLC and regular cleaning, plus plenty of ACF and is bound sure to have some electrical issues at some point - not as if the GS does not have more than its fair share of problems.

I am more than a bit envious as if I got a second bike it would have to be a NC700 to cut down my fuel bill and not a Ducati marvel such as this.

I've only ever seen one of these for real and they look like a lot of fun. A GS with attitude. Not jealous at all :drool

Due to the rareness of the bike, I had to buy it unseen, and without a test ride. Needless to say, I was not disappointed.:thumb A mate of mine bought another one that I was looking at, and up until he picked it up kept asking what he was doing, and had he done the right thing.:D Needless to say, he is as happy as I am (even though mine is faster:D):beerjug: It's quite funny knowing that between us we have 10% of the remaining Megamotos left in the UK!

It's a lovely bike, great colours! Have you any intention to get it remapped at Hilltop Motorcycles??

Cheers. :beerjug:

Nice bike:D but terrible when accelerating at higher speeds, like having someone steer the back end for you against your will!!!
(Make sure the first thing you buy is a Scott steering damper and put it on full!)

I can comment on the Multi v GS (v Megamoto since someone mentioned it) thing as ive had them all and done 10000 miles on each.

The GS is far far better two up without a doubt and wor lass rues the day I sold my GS, doesnt like the space on the Multi.

One up, (on the road), there is no comparison IMO, seat, servicing, longer distance riding, power, torque, handling, way less vibrations, mirrors, looks, weight, proper road tyres, excelent build quality goes to the Multi.

GS way better at off road (forget off road on multi) two up, camping (luggage humping) and it has SHAFT DRIVE!!!

Not much to say about the Megamoto, once I bought it I kept thinking I had made a mistake. Great at tootling around and posing on but way to restricted to do much with.

I did 10000 miles on my multi and my GS (and my megamoto), enjoyed the Multi much more but at a high cost. Got a great trade in for my Multi when I bought myself.....................................................................................

....................I LOVE IT !!!!!! Please try one, its better than both:thumb
Better handling (than both), luggage (than multi), much lighter, outstanding brakes, fuel range, fuel economy and brilliant twos up (can fit RT rear box straight on for the wife's back:comfort)

Looks classy! shame you didn't get the retro, spoked wheels!

Not really a shame mate as the Classic one is much dear and the deal breaker is the spoked wheels. Bugger to clean and they run tubes, no good for my needs.

Fair enough then, enjoy it! Love the white too, my GS is alpine white! :beerjug:

GS looks smart in white too (like the new one with the red frame also), my multi was white too:beerjug:

Yes, the Rallaye? looks good! ah, the Ducati has to be red, sorry. I saw a white and red one in the showroom, had to be red for me but horses for courses or whatever they say! :blagblah

I read all the Mutley road tests, and used to own the earlier air cooled version. I never really considered it when choosing a GS as it doesn't seem to me to be a bike for keeping and I'm fed up with changing bikes every year or so. When I picked the GS up as a 3 month old ex demo bike I saw 2 Mutleys on the forecourt for the same money as my GS and never had a second thought, not then or since, and I love Ducatis having owned three.

I think your right about the Ducati not being a keeper. I too am fed up changing bikes and felt I had to sell the MTS1200 after 2 years and 10k miles, fearing a much bigger devaluation if it turned 15k.

Im a really tempted to buy a s1000sr (naked) if it gets released but the BMW dealer has already said forget trying to sell one of those with over 10k miles, it just wont happen.

Seems my boxer is the only bike that high mileage is accepted. Neither wonder then they are so popular with the touring community:)

Plenty of used 2 year old Multistradas poping up now

What sort of prices are these?

I think as a do everything bike (except off road - and I probably need to get up and down lanes 1% of the time) the Multi is about as good as it gets for now - 150bhp is more than a lot of sports bikes and with full Ohlins I would assume it handles just as well.

Any owners have an update? One of the guys we ride with has one and hates riding within the speed limits as he says the engine just doesn't run right at 30mph - doesn't seem to have a problem as higher speeds though ;)
