I'm back!
The story so far: looking for more mid to top end go out of the GS1150. Thinks,.... if the RS has 95HP and the GS has 85, then lets try some RS bits.
Parts fitted: Inlet trunks from the RS. Definitely more top end. Bike breathing better at the top end... allowed it to pull an indicated 130 where it would usually pull 120 ish..... Looks promising.
Other parts fitted: Secondhand RS cams from the 1100 engine (may be the same as the S but still don’t know for sure). These went straight in, no problems at all. Suspecting the bike may have lost some of its bottom end grunt but hopefully better at the top end.
Test ride: Bike sucks, not running well at all. Recheck everything I have been messing about with, all OK..... Baffled!!!! During injector balance set up, the left hand side throttle body screw is very stiff. Take it out to find the "O" ring had perished and crumbled to black gungy dust. Aha!!! Put in new "O" ring test ride again.
Bike is now running really well. But here is the weird part... the bike now feels like it has much more mid range with no loss of bottom end. Like much more. To the extent that top gear is like a top gear, not like an overdrive. It pulls like crazy in 6th compared to what it used to. Its weird. I am sitting here writing this and I am still not sure by how much it has improved, but seat of the pants says it feels great. It pulls 6th from 2000 rpm and just drives. I found myself leaving it in 6th in places where I would have normally changed down to 5th. Go figure!!
Top end is still the same. This is completely contrary to what I was expecting. Looking at the figures for the RS and GS the RS actually produces more torque. The bike seems to go great, it seems to rev more freely but until I can get out with my mates and compare it against theirs, I honestly dont know how much of an improvement it is.
The spec so far is: Y-piece, Remus Revolution, RS Inlet trunks and cams.
The next step is going to be a bigger airbox intake from Motorworks (who have been a great help and are interested in any results I can give them). The final step will be a chip.
Keep the faith
