My 1100GS… A year in the life and tribute to the old tractors...

So after nearly two years back on the mainland I've finally managed a decent trip away on the tractor... 700 miles down to Cornwall to see family... Left after a morns work yesterday and made it to Crewe... Today into Wales and down some decent twisty roads to Newport way and over to Brizzol... Then off at Bridgewater after watching all the traffic leaving the SW on the M5😧 and along the A39 into Cornwall...
By a little judgement and a fair bit of luck I left Minehead and made it almost to Barnstaple with hardly any traffic... A miracle and so much GS fun on the tight and Twisties...👍😆 Oilheads heaven...
I doubt I could do the same bit and have the same luck if I tried and I thought I was pretty lucky on the A483 from Newtown in Wales earlier in the day...
So nearly at the 100k mark on the tractor and even though it's showing it age a fair bit it's still perfect for roads like this...👍 Happy biking 🏍️

So I had a good few days visiting family including a good quiet run up the coast roads around Lands End and st Ives... Then a M and A road 700 miles in a day slog to get up to NE Scotland again😬 Actually fairly decent bar the shiteola weather, traffic etc around the Midlands and lower NW...🙄 The laugh was as a rider of a proper old shitters or shonker as I like to call it, I had a few cheap buys about if something drastic happened ... 😉😆 And as happened in Oilheads world, the old shonker did marvellously and span round a few fun A road bits as well...
We'll keep em going and that the main thing over modern biking, they are simple, steady fun that's just as good in the Twisties without worrying about the Bluetooth or mode settings... My mode is " get the fuck on..." 🤣

Finally got there to follow many Oilheads before... Officially 100k miles but I've lost two Speedo cables probably accounting for at least another 1.2k...😆
Still a great benchmark for how balanced a GS should be and I was going to reach 100k and then do a general refresh but seen as it's had an eBay rear diff and a half hour rattle can "double black" paint job this year I think that's enough🤣👍
Happy Oilhead riding...😄

So a trip Tae Glasgae with shitey weather forecast has made for an early deployment of the gaucho/ shite bag... Couple of very wet parts of a great weekend buzzing around on the auld tractor...👍 Ready for winter a bit early but not taking it off now and you always forget how effective they are😀 Happy autumn winter riding...👍

In Turkey with mine atm. It did disgrace itself in Montenegro by stopping due to a faulty fuel pump (not the HES as I'd previously thought), but otherwise is trucking on as ever, guess we've done about 3 1/2 thousand so far, should hit the 100K before we get back.

So after the ad for the HD Pan America in FS &W section I idly thought I'd see what the medium term reviews were like...😉 Aussie chap seemed keen over his 10k kms or so ownership, it's 150hp output and especially the multi mode intelligent suspension system that is always aiming for the correct 30% sag in its live ride height setting.
There were clips of the many buttons to set all this and I had that sinking feeling of why we stick with older tech Oilheads...👍😂
All I could think was never has a bike more needed a set of clocks that go round and a headlight that was designed by someone without a Judge Dredd fantasy...😂😂

So since my trip to Cornwall and back I'm back with the GS as the main bike...😀 The Pan is getting news brake hoses and the GTR is still being minority temperamental... Since the early Gaucho fitting the weather has been mostly lovely! A deffo reason for not taking it off even though it did its job on a pissy run Tae Glasgow n back...
Amazingly, after 5 GS 11s and well over 100k miles I saw 280 miles on a tank full last week...! That was getting to the dregs and on one of the hallowed plastic tanks but 280 miles was brilliant... About average fer the Pan ..😆 Happy biking😀

Classic Oilhead morning this morn... Mist to fog and wet for most of the rural commute and just enough of everything, power, braking, engine braking and feel for the handling to make it fine and even fun... Now with full winter regalia inc muffs making it comfy too and a bargain from this site...👍😀

The 1150 GSA was nearer to the 1100’s than the 1150GS …in terms of gearing and performance
Ridden a 1150GS this week for 200 miles with the E overdrive and it’s shite
Try fitting a bevell box from an 100, lowers all gearing and is great foe modern day trafffic and any off reading you may require. Easy to do and can be put back to normal and the redundant box sold on here. Did this with my 1150 before a long treck and brilliant for all roads, the Dalton and several hundred of dirt roads.

Went the other way with mine, fitted a rear bevel from an R1100s. With a John Gemmi chip you lose nothing at low revs and it drops the revs just enough at higher speeds to make a difference on motorways.

I know this is an 1100 thread but it got me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Recently sold my 1250GSA in favour of an 1150GSA. Sentiments were much the same. As johnnyboxer put it ‘A bike with soul’. Purchased at 122k miles and I’ve put nearly 5K on her this year alone.

I did exactly the same. Each to their own but there’s no comparison

Yep, the later stuff does say much back to you... It has to be an experience after all and modern biking is as much about gadgets as anything else...👍

I meant to say doesn't...👍😂

So the GS was dormant last week due to snow n ice... Sat outside under snow and untouched and unloved... Dug a path through icy stuff up the drive to the road and this morn after a bit of a thaw switch on, Brum Brum and off we go again... Apart from dodging traffic at a minor flood all plain sailing...👍😆 I love it...😂

So we've had a revisit from Mr Snow and this week might be a biking write off...😆 The Pans on the lift, wheel out for a new tyre and some minor TLC... The auld Airhead is safely in behind it... The poor Tractor is in its natural habitat of outside... By luck I've parked it so the muffs don't fill with snow, and expectations are it'll start fine when the white stuff clears as it's right 'ard...👍😉
Until then December had gone well for biking but when your north and rural, this is going to happen sometime... Happy New (biking) Year...😊

And things usually get worse before they get better...the snow has stopped the dogs peeing against the wheel I suppose...👍😂
