My 1200 GS, bmw dealer, bmw assistance and AVIS

ST247

I have just sold my 2nd Yamaha TDM 900.

I complained bitterly regarding some finsih issue's on the bike and soon after i got -

two front brake discs and pads
two footrest hanger plates
two brand new downpipes
several nuts bolts, unions and clips replaced
and due to un-shiftable marks on the engine casing - a whole, brand new engine fitted

all under warranty, all free, all without stress.

Im more than willing to give the GS a second chance but i'll be regretting the day i bought it if it gives me anymore unexpected probs esp. when i can get that kinda service from a high street jap dealer.

Im sure you can see my point.
did yamaha sugest you tried the gs?

No, i test rode one in 2005 and fancied having one since - at the mo, i kinda have that sinking feeling that perhaps i made the wrong choice.

Give it a few hundred miles... and you'll wonder why you ever doubted yourself :thumb2

I just bought a GSA and, to be fair, it did cost me a few hundred pounds within the first few hundred miles. But I've since done a few thousand and all is GREAT with the world :clap Great handling, comfort, pace and awesome ability off-road for it's size.

Does anybody know whether at the end of my years warranty with bmw assistance, i can re-new for a further year?

Yep - for about £375. Just don't let it lapse as they are not keen to renew if there is a gap, even one day!

Mr Turaloon,

BMW will be more than happy to relieve you of a premium to renew extend your warranty. If you do a search under "extended warranty" you will find numerous discussions as to the current costs and merits of the offer

Best of luck ........... :thumb2

you have just has a piss poor service !
and you want to re-new bumw assist !
they treat you like that, AND you want to pay for MORE !
Iam in the wrong line o work?
mottorad cent dalkieth/bishybashy aint any better, you get warranty work done,at agreed no cost to myself, then the same service adviser phones you 3 months later asking for the payment.
I did try to contact them, but no return phone calls.
I wont buy anything from them again,
sorted.
they have lost a further 4 bike sales/service etc fae myself and family/freinds.
bye for noo
capt.

frankly i'm amazed that a bmw dealer can only have one tech

...and apparently no one else who could diagnose what sounds rather like a failed fuel pump controller, a 10 minute job to fix.

Because they sent out "grease monkeys" :nenau

surely the dealer could have sorted it out? HTF can they exist with no workshop for weeks on end. more to the point, how are their customers supposed to manage? bmw should kick their useless arse out of their dealer network if they can't get it together.

twats.

well don't think the car drivers get it any better........

A lot of people who bought the 3 series cars with the optional 19" alloy wheels are finding that the wheels are cracking within 12 to 18 months of car purchase.

BMW's response: It's because of the state of Britain's roads - we're not responsible :D

It's like the case I can remember (not sure who it was) where a warranty claim for a GS was turned down because the owner had taken it off-road.

I think it may be approaching the end of the line for JC Aberdeen and motorrad. They used to sell bikes as some may know and know they only service bikes as their service was apparantly appalling and the sales side was taken away from them.

1 Tech, cause i think they know that they are very small and vulnerable.

The reason im asking regarding extending the warranty is that because the bike is on 'select' im stuck with it for 18 months, probably 2 years and i dont want things to be going wrong in the 2nd year of ownership that i will have to fork out for etc.

Yes, very pee'd off with everything right now, but i would imagine i would be even more pee'd off if i had to pay for recover and then pay for a possible expensive fault to be repaired - several times perhaps.

Who knows - the bike may be perfect from this moment on! Although i did have JC Dundee today phone me to ask what was wrong with it to which he got the reply 'you're the mechanics'. Plonkers.

That's not quite how it was. The closing of bike sales in John Clark BMW Aberdeen was an internal decision.

My mistake - thats the rumour mill for you! Bad decision though surely? Heaps of oil rich aberdonians wanting tens and tens of 1200 adventures?

No sales dept in one of the richest cities in the uk? Must be more to it me tinks?

The bike sales division is only a small part of the whole JC empire. The internal politics of any organisation of that size are a wonder to behold.

What happened to the big showroom and clothing dept did that go ahead

The last thing I heard, the steel had been bought and the next stage was to lay the foundations. I believe that there are going to be two semi-detached showrooms - one for Mini and the other for motorcycles.

However, given the way that the arse had dropped out of new car sales even before the latest economic downturn.......:nenau

Fear not Mike.
The ground's been broken for the new motorcycle only showroom etc. and last time I was in, the founds were about to be laid.
Expected opening, I belive, December/January.

Not before time too!!!!!
