All a tablet needs is a mount and a power supply , as does a BMW, Garmin & Tom Tom.
All three come with those, in the box.
As I said, to me at least…. Bods like ‘em.

DMD is far too rich for my use. Came across this which would then just leave sourcing a secure powered cradle https://store.blackview.hk/products/active-5-priceDMD offer a a rugged tablet and phone, using Android, and a lockable mount

I think I amleaning towards a deicated sat nav for trips and phone for occasional use. re tablets, MRA might run on Android version 9, but prefers the latest version for obv reasons. I have also got co pilot. Got it when it was free and as I had it then, I still have free access. Haven't really used it much TBH, but the option exists.) for short bursts or sporadic, on the go addresses I use tom tom Navigo or Google.Have a look at the Samsung Galaxy tab active 2 they can be picked up pretty cheap now
Lots of mounts available for them
They run android version 9 so will work with a lot of apps
I run
Sygic premium
Petal maps
Tripomatic (mapping and route planning - (similar to basecamp))
Waze
Co pilot
The subscription prices are low
If i recall co-pilot is £16 pa
Tripomatic was £30 lifetime
Sygic i have premium lifetime which was a set price, but they have changed to an annual subscription . but there are web codes for !0% off
they have just added a lifetime motorbike subscription for £25 - it offers a cleaner interface - less clutter havnt checked it out but i will at some time
You can rund DMD but that has gone from a free app to a paid app, (TBH its just a fancy front end) and it dosent (or didnt use to support saving to SD card) - so i walked away from that app
If you are going for a Garmin XT read about it in the Garmin Zumo forums. Its routing logic is quite different than your 590 (I have a 340 and 390 that share the same routing logic as the 590) and it has a bit of an issue (at times) with "imported" routes rather than "Saved" routes. I like the XT now, not least for its extremely bright clear screen (though I do use MRA and OSMand+ for navigation now) and ability to handle POI's but it drove me nuts until I was aware of, and compensated for, its foibles when route planning.I think I amleaning towards a deicated sat nav for trips and phone for occasional use. re tablets, MRA might run on Android version 9, but prefers the latest version for obv reasons. I am leaning towards a Garmin XT as I won't have to faff with looking for right mount and where to fit it and what power cable etc for a tablet. I know basecamp, I can integrate routes into it quite easily and still make use of my already created routes and library in BC. Its a neat solution for me in terms of taking it on and off the bike. Again, I am used to living with with a sat nav. As for the Nav 5(@Wapping ), yep decent price etc but no cradle and the tech is now (as my 590 was) long in the tooth in terms of blue tooth tech and compatibility for future proofing.
I would much rather go for a meal, have a few beers and chat with the locals than watch telly in the evening but we’re all different.Come the evening, i can watch some downloaded box set or films, again without having to peer at a 5" screen
Read my kindle, and emails, and check a route for the next day , without having to keep pinching / zooming to see the bigger picture
Yep, found a website detailing the modes and re calculations when stopped or changing from mount to mount. ZUMO FORUMSIf you are going for a Garmin XT read about it in the Garmin Zumo forums.
