My bike has been stolen!

I use GiffGaff for a number of other projects that use data connections as they have truly unlimited data on them.

Issue is, although it uses o2 network, the data coverage isnt huge, hence me using SMS to communicate not data, and then o2 worked out cheaper for me

looking at the description it uses data rather than SMS

Mine was stolen 4 weeks ago in Newcastle, recovered late the next day, so there's hope. Trust you've some good luck mate.

Sorry to hear you've had yer bike nicked.

And I'm afraid to say I'd bet my mortgage that you'll never see it again on the road. It'll most likely be broken for parts.

Saw this lot at the Gadget show
They have a basic tracker which is very compact
http://back2you.com/store/product_info.cfm?product_id=26

and more advance version
http://back2you.com/store/product_info.cfm?product_id=75
that you could control a relay that would interrupt the fuel pump

he said they would be interested in groups buys
mentioned £80 for the small compact one
Sorry toTo hear about the original members loss, i dont mean to hijack but I would like to express an interest in a group buy. It would give me a chance to get it back befor it was sent to Lithuania to be broken!

I am going to report you...

Seriously though I hope you get it back.

It wisnae my FireBlade. They left the chain behind when making off wit' their ill gotten gains.

I'm afraid bike theft is an everyday occurrence in any town or city. A bod had his nicked from outside St Katherine's Dock just last week. Park a bike everyday, in the same place (this was from an 'un-owned' area of pavement several motorcyclists and scooterists seem to have adopted as their own private parking lot) without being chained properly to something and it will go... lifted into a van.... simple as ABC.

Just here to be exact.... Corner of Nesham Street with Thomas More Street, straight beneath the Waitrose sign.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=vau...=9qvmoqkvNvqbmL8JrRNfmw&cbp=12,78.66,,0,12.09

No bikes on display when the picture was taken.... Plenty there every day since, none chained to anything.... fill yer boots, if you want to steal a bike. It's like shellin' peas.

Might also be interested in a group buy. Do they work Europe wide?

once or twice I've just looped one of my chains through the bike's chain next to me... Not sure about the etiquette with this but will then make it more difficult lifting either bike up.

Interesting..

...my GS was nicked about two months ago - hasn't been recovered and probably won't be.

I was sorting out the insurance claim with Motorrad and was told by the guy that he's seeing two GS claims per day at the moment.

I had rather assumed that my bike would have been broken for parts, but insurance guy said he thought that highly unlikely, and that it was much more likely that it was being shipped to the continent intact to be sold on.

Apparently in certain less-than-law-abiding countries (with poor roads I imagine) GSs have recently become quite the status symbol, so they are being nicked to order. The Police and insurers have noticed a big spike in GS thefts.

Not good news all round.

I'm going to try out one of these :

http://www.ninja-tracking-systems.co.uk/

£158 inc hardwire kit and delivery.

Anyone had any experience of them ?

Only drawback I can see is the proprietary in-house interface
which means if the company goes titsup..................

If my kids ever find out you can attach one to an old git
I'll be fitted with one for my next birthday. :rob

Let you know how it goes.

this thread has been a bit of an eye opener to me
doing lots of research over the past two days
i have settled on the back to you type
its the 60 day standby mode that appeals to me the most
but at £195 its not bad
but this lot i am sure are the exact same thing
called the TK104
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=gps+104+tracker
these are around £75
just seems to have a different logo on it
has anyone got one/tried one - anyone know the difference
you could almost get three for the backtoyou one - even the boxes look the same :blagblah

SiMo
sorry to hijack your thread
hope you get your bike back
the above was trying to prevent a serious problem that you have high lighted but perhaps lots of us can not afford the expensive tracker GPS options at the moment with buying and contracts - and this seems to be not a bad option at about £70 quid :thumb2

Watching this with interest, my works car has a tracker but my own vehicles don't due to perceived cost, I expected it to be quite expensive. Our office vehicle trackers are used as big brother to keep tabs on our work patterns via a web based software solution, although the company says its for security etc.

If it can be a DIY low cost option via ebay hardware and iphone/ipad apps then I may spend out a little for some added peace of mind (plus I can keep tabs on her indoors :D).

White R1200GS LD10WXR from London W2 some time between 7 am and 11 pm on 2 May 2012 - please keep a look out for it!
Thanks.

Sorry to hear that. Join MAG (http://www.mag-uk.org) and apart from the campaigning work they do for bikes in general, they will also circulate your details and give a reward for information received leading to recovery.

Hope you get it back quickly and in good order.

The original tracker is £399 for the life of the bike while owned by you. That will seem cheap compared to losing your no claims and getting a big loading on ALL your vehicle (including car) insurances.

Plus the main benefit is all 52 Police Forces across the UK and every Police intercept vehicle, motorbike and helicopter is equipped with TRACKER detection equipment, so any of these vehicles can see where your stolen vehicle is anywhere in the UK, and intercept within minutes.
You don't get that with your homemade tracker

https://www.tracker.co.uk/b2c.html

not the best informative site but
if i have read this right
its £361 for the divice
and £349 while you own the tracker (subscription)
thats £710 all in

a while back i asked two insurance companies what the cost difference was if i had a tracker fitted and they said - no price difference - although some discount - some dont

the £70 quid idea is total cost and if you used it and located the bike would the police say because you are not using a thatcham approved GPS you are on your own ??????

Unless things have changed the Tracker I have fitted to my Caravan (No it isn'r a GS) is mobile phone based ( signals) The brand is Phantom Tracker and the unit uses the caravan battery to top up its own battery. To cut a long story short, the caravan battery went flat as did the tracker( in 3 months). When I re charged the battery, the tracker activated. I got a call from the control centre who told me that my caravan was in West Africa. It was actually sitting on my drive at the time. The tracker unit apparently has a major part that was manuafactured in West Africa and was showing its location as that.

My point is that the police won't find it if the battery is flat.

The police don't have the equipment to track your £70 device.

You are on your own. :D

Your "Phantom" tracker took three months to go flat. And what relevence has that got to do with someone who's had their bike pinched yesterday ?

Plus your phantom isn't the genuine tracker system. Just one of the many copies.

I hope your insurance will pay for the bike, obviously there is no payment for the amount of time you spent looking after the bike or extras you may have added.
I would place a small bet that it has already been broken down and shipped to mainland europe judging by the economic situation.

Replace your bike, park it at your brothers place or sisters, buy an old 125 to get there, you've become an easy target.
