My bike stolen last night.

Well not last night, the night before. Just moved into a new flat, been there only two days and woke up to find my bike no longer parked outside. Can't begin to tell you how sickening it is to see literally nothing where your bike ought to be. NO marks on the grass, no marks on the pavement and no noise. Narrowed it down to between 1am and 8am and it looks like they literally picked it up and walked off with it.
I checked a local scrap bike dealer, he said he'd not been offered one but took my number in any case. He said it had happened to him and not to expect to ever see it again. It was insured but I'm going to get knocked on it so this is going to cost me which I can ill afford after losing my job a couple of months ago.
The reg number was GU09 XJN. It was almost definitely nicked to order for spares or export but I fail to see the point, it will never run without the ignition key and they're going to have to damage the parts to break off all the locks. I know it's futile but if anyone sees or hears of it or parts then please drop me a line. It was taken from Erith SE London and is grey.

Is it a 650 or 800 and what colour? Easier to keep an eyeout then

It was the 800. Almost completely stock although it had a hand made top rack with my waterproof in a pack, brand new SW motech crash bars, spotlights attached to the indicator mounts so quite tucked in, metal side panel inserts replacing the plastic ones and F800 sticker missing on the right although GS was still there.
I am pretty gutted. I was going to have to sell it anyway for something cheaper and was already fed up about that... I was kind of taking my time, if you know what I mean.
Just bought a G650 X-country and wiped out my savings in the hope of a payout from the insurance with no messing about. Fingers crossed.

Bad luck there.
I guess it will be broken for spares as it's worth more in bits, than a whole (un-rideable) bike.

Was it alarmed or chained up ?

Not had that happen to me (yet) but I feel for anyone in this situation as you lose something that may be vital and important to you and, even though you are insured, you end up paying through the excess AND when your insurance premium rises next time

Try not to dwell on it (not easy I know). You have to move on, and quickly, otherwise it eats inside (yep, been there). Rest assured that these little gits have moved on, and have probably nicked another bike already.

Theft seems to be down on bikes generally, however over the last 35 yeas I have had six bikes and two cars stolen, I know exactly how you feel when you look at a spot and feel "gone". No broken padlocks on the floor, no marks or footprints. You think you must have parked round the corner perhaps?
Just "gone".

This is not Joy riding or a lark, it robs people of their transport, freedom and finally trust in other people.
There is no excuse, its not to feed families or a drug problems its plain old bad to the core scumbagness. Death is the only solution.
When the SAS come home once again they should set up a tempting target and shoot anybody who takes the bate.
Capital punishment for anybody deliberately taking another mans transport. It worked in the wild west, time to apply it in the wild lawless cities.

I've had two bikes stolen over 15 years, I hope you get the insurance sorted, your next policy isn't too much, and the thieves manage to get the bike running then crash into a tree or even better a moving train

It is weird how it's just gone, like scotty just beamed it up. she was parked on soft grass, I even put a stone under the stand just in case. No footprints, no signs of dragging it over the grass and no tye marks on the path next to it either. Next door had their washing laid out all over the grass leading to the road (i know, that was odd too) and it was untouched. It was silent too so they never broke the padlocks, chain or steering lock so it must have been lifted and carried. Got to be at least 4 guys or a modified trolley. Clearly nicked to order and definitely someone who knew exactly what they were doing.
Trying to move on, I've bought a cheaper BMW (couldn't think of buying anything else really) and went for something different as I figured that if I buy an older F650GS I'm just going to feel awkward on it and want my old bike back, I reckon by going for a little enduro at least it won't remind me of my 800.
In the mean time i will be checking local ads for GS spares.

First pic shows the spots under the body, this is a different place and stands out, and the metal plate on the side....

This pic i have ringed the can, there was a mark on it there....

this pic shows what he meant when he said there F800 sticker was missing. the other side has it all... and the front brake resovoir is a white/clear colour, not the usual taned type...

as stated it also had SW Motech bars (not shown)

Just had the phone call. The police have found my bike. He said it was all in one piece and looked intact. They even know who took it but have checked over the bike with a view towards hopefully proving it about which I'm not optomistic.
I have to arrange to pick it up tomorrow so at the point I don't know what I'm going to find. Fingers crossed.
One thing though, the officer was convinced he was seen riding around on it. Now I've got the only key and I have been led to believe that these bikes are basically unstealable without the key. This guy is just a public nuisance crackhead apparently, not a professional so this does beg a question. I will post more about the condition tomorrow.
To be honest I doubt i'll be keeping it. It will never feel like my bike again. Anyone interested in picking her up off me for a reasonable price depending on damage please PM me.

I mean, he hasn`t fished the spare away from through the letterbox or something daft like that, has he?

Funny you should say that, my house was also broken into but nothing was missing. Luckily I'm hopeless with paperwork so the books were stored at my mums house in a safe. The black plastic "master key" is safe and accounted for, the other key is still with me by virtue of the fact that it was in my jacket pocket while I was out using my bike when the house was open to visitors. I had no other key.
Apparently she was found with a beaten up Kawasaki in an abandoned garage near by. I hope to find out more later. I don't even know what state the lock is in but the bike was chained and the steering lock was engaged. I was told by BMW that it was impossible to start the bike without the correct key with the correct electronic transponder. So far this is not sounding like a professional so I'm interested to see how he managed to start my bike.
